Invading Splinterlands

In my previous post: Into Splinterlands, I have shown you how to get started with Splinterlands. A play-to-earn card game that I was curious enough to try. With just the small cost of $10, you can already start your ways to earn, and your earnings come in the form of DEC tokens.

Now that you know what Splinterlands is, let's get on with the game.

One thing that I like about the game is that it has simple and pretty fast gameplay. It does not have all the complications and rules that other magic card games have. You just have to pick your team and let the battles run their courses.

To start a battle, you just have to click the big button that looks kinda orange but looks kinda red at the same time. You would not miss it since it has the big "BATTLE" on it. Be sure to set the match to "RANKED" or else your battle won't even matter.

You can see on the right side of the screen my ranking and rating. I am currently at the lowly Bronze III league with a rating of over a thousand points. The rating will increase if you win a battle and it will decrease if you lose a battle. Your rating will determine which league you are going to play with. With that rating, I should be on Bronze II at least. But if you can see on the far right side of the screen, opposite my current rank, the Bronze II league is locked. The reason for that is my Power.

Just below the rating is the power which is depicted with the blue bar. Before I can unlock the next league, my power should at least be 1000 points. So how to increase your points? Well, you need to buy or rent cards for that power to go up. And since I am still mostly using the free starter pack of the game, I don't have enough power to permanently unlock the next league. We'll talk more about that later on.

After clicking the battle button, the system will search for an enemy for you and when it found someone in your league, it will display some helpful information about your opponent and the game battle terms.

As you can see on the upper part of the screen, there are some historical information about your opponent that you can use in your battle. You can hover over a splinter on the "recently played teams" and it will show you the exact composition of the team they used recently. This will be useful if you become familiar enough with the cards and abilities of monsters because you can use cards that will counter their cards.

At the lower portion of the screen, you can see the rules of the game. Some battles have different restrictions than others. In some cases, only monsters with melee attacks will be used, or in some, ranged attackers will not be allowed to be used. You should pay attention to that when building a team.

The next item is the MANA Cap. So this is how the game becomes tricky. Each game has a different amount of mana cap, this will dictate which and how many monsters you can take with you to battle. Will elaborate further later.

The next is the splinters or types of monsters you can use, and the other is the time you can consume in making your team for battle.

The next thing to do is build your team. The first one you will need to pick is a summoner card. Depending on what card you pick, it will determine what splinter and what monsters you can use for battle. If you pick a summoner with the fire splinter type, you can only use the fire-type monsters plus the neutral or attack-type monsters. And so on.

After building the team and consuming all the mana cap, you just need to press battle and the battle will ensue. It's also important to know your cards so you can fight efficiently and bag enough wins to move on to the next league and earn a little better.

This is a sample card that is included in the free deck. The number 3 on the upper left corner of the card is the Mana. This means if you use this card, 3 mana will be consumed from the Mana cap. So going with the example battle above, the 25 Mana cap will then be reduced to 22 and so on as you add cards to your team.

The next number you can see is the number 1 with a target on its background. The number signifies the damage it can deal and the target means it's a ranged-attacker. There are three attack types in the game, ranged, magic and melee. You should build your team with this in mind.

The next item is the number two with a blue orb and boots on the side. This indicates how fast the monster is, faster monsters in the game will attack faster.

The heart with the number 4 is the HP or health points. During battle, the attacks of the monster will tick away from this until it becomes zero and when it does the card is then destroyed, the game ends when one player is out of playable cards on the field.

Some monsters have armor or shield. The attacks from the enemies will destroy the armor first before it ticks away from the HP.

The star and number 1 beside the name of the card show its level. You can level up the cards by combining a duplicate card. When you level up the card one of its attributes will be increased.

Be mindful of leveling up cards though, if you wish to level up cards, it's ideal to level up the summoner card first because a level 1 summoner card can only summon level 1 monsters.

The last item is the circle below the card. This is where the special ability of the card is displayed. Some cards have it, some cards don't. You can take advantage of the cards' special abilities to win the games.

After completely selecting your team you proceed to battle and the cards will be laid out in front of you. You can't control any of these so you just watch the battle unfolds after you press Rumble. You can also skip to the results if you do not want to watch the battle. In some cases, it's ideal to watch how the battle unfolds so you can see how the composition of your team reacts to the battle and you can plan better next time.

And with that, I lost the battle. LOL

You can see from the results that my opponent earned some rating, the same amount as the rating points I have lost, and then he pocketed some DEC or dark energy crystals. The amount of DEC won is higher when you climb up the ranks.

So that's it. That is how you play the game of Splinterlands. Good luck!
