The greatest credit for putting the forest under protection belongs to Timothy John Byford, a screenwriter and director, but also an ornithologist and a passionate bird watcher. In the period from 1986 to 1989, Byford studied and observed birds in this area and based on that, he proposed that the forest be placed under protection.

Byford's forest consists of maple, silver-leaved maple, royal jelly, spider, poplar, American ash, acacia, cedar, watercress, pedunculate… Also, there are 28 species of moss in the forest, the forest is home to about 70 species of birds.
Benches and tables have been set up along the trail, which, in addition to providing walkers and joggers with the opportunity to relax, can also serve as a place to perform some stretching exercises, sit-ups and others. Banjica forest is a protected area of category III and is a habitat for rare species of birds, whose chirping can often be heard at every step of the forest. The trail through Banjica forest is wavy, suitable for various activities: from light jogging to fartlek, interval training, mountain training. The trail is maintained by Zelenilo Beograd. At the top of the forest is a swimming pool, and there are tennis courts nearby.
This trail is a favorite promenade of many residents of Banjica and Voždovac, who often visit the forest in the summer. All generations are present there: from kids to retirees. All runners, recreationists and other athletes love running through the Banjica forest and practice it every day from early morning until dusk.
In the summer, everything here is full of runners, while in the winter, when it gets colder, there are fewer of them.
