ONLINE CLASS: The Struggle of the Less Privilege
I was chatting with someone when she opened a topic about the academic freeze. She asked my opinion if I am in favor or not and why. And this is my answer. I am in favor of Academic freeze not because I just want to but because not only I but thousands or maybe millions of youth specially college students are facing a struggle of how they will survive the online class.
One most problem is the android phone or laptop. Yes, we can say that everybody have android phones but did all of them have the latest that are capable to download apps? do they all have 4G lte sim? The problem is that, higher version apps make the phone to lag that make it harder for the students to use it. What if that situation occur during their online quiz? The next thing is that, some students are living in remote areas, phones with only 3G sim needs to look for a place to get strong internet connection. And here's the thing, you're outside of your house then you have online class but your battery is getting lower, what you gonna supposed to do?
I honestly experienced it yesterday when I saw the phone that I am using is getting a low battery. I wanted to cry that time because i don't know what to do and there is no signal inside our home but thanks to the good professors who understand this unexpected situation. But I am only one to the thousands of students who had the same scenario.
I saw posts of some students who struggle with their school tuition fee because even we face problems in this pandemic, private schools still increase their school fees. I am very sad for those students especially to the working students that needs to work hard to provide payment for their school fees.
Academic freeze is anti poor. It is only for the privileged people who can buy phones or gadgets instantly. As far as I am concerned, many students are struggling with their online class, for their loads and especially to the speed of internet connection. Yes, as I said earlier, I am in favor of academic freeze but even it wouldn't happen, I believe that online class will still have a positive outcome, it just that we are not prepared for this pandemic to happen. What are your thoughts or opinion about online class? It matters. They literally destroyed their motto. "No Students Left Behind"?
No students should be left behind and what is happening is so sad. I hope pandemic ends now.
I hope DepEd or CHED do something about it too.
I think they already knew this situation, i believe that they are also doing their job. It's just that we are not prepared in this pandemic.
yes in deed some cannot afford to have a personal laptop or cellphones why is it they push that kind of education that really knowing the risk and problems
maybe because they based on the number of the enrollees that's why they still push it, and maybe they're tasking the risk to have a better understanding on this crucial situation. Whatever it is, still yes for academic freeze.
I agree, .. not every one is capable of having a stablr internet connection. But the advantage is, less expences to fair and apartment fees. I hope that teachers and proffesors will extend their wide consideration to every student during these pandemic times..
Right, this one is a pros of online class, the students learn at home and will save moneys instead of using it for apartments. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Exactly!You're correct.As I read your article,I am so relate to the experiences that the most of the students now were experiencing.And that is the poor internet connection.Poor internet connection will realy affect our learning because we cannot properly attend the class and listen to our teachers when they are having the discussion.Though we already have this upgraded and new gadgets if the internet is poor,we can't still used the gadgets properly. But in terms of academic freeze,I am not agree with this program.Why? Because if we push this program how can the youth continue their education.And maybe many youth as well as the teacher will suffer because of this program.Maybe next school year when this pandemaic ended,and face to face class is already allowed the pupils might have the difficulty on reading and writing words because they stopped learning for one year.I am not sayinh that they literally stop,what I mean there will be no learning because they cannot focus and they will not be obliged to read and write.
Thank you for agreeing that what the quality of internet connection is a big deal that it ruins the online class of the students. I appreciate and respect your opinion for beings not in favor of the academic freeze, i also think the same that students will not learn but studying during this crisis is harder than the usual. Online classes are good and I see it as a means of technology upgrading but still some less privilege students will be affected due to the fact that they won't be able to afford computer or good mobile phone not to talk of data subscription to attend classes unless all these are provided freely .
Yeahh i definitely agree with you! The online class is really goood but not for the less privilege students. They struggle a lot and that hurts.
