There are many factors that affect our behavior, the decisions we make, and our mood. Seasons are one of them. When we think about it, we are generally more energetic and happier in summer with long days in summer, light and warmth coming from the sun. Therefore, we tend to fall in love, make bold decisions, and make new plans.
In winters, with the shortening of the days and the cooling of the weather, changes begin in our country. We start getting less sunlight than usual. Our social activities are reduced. This affects our energy. We take on a more melancholic mood. There are obvious changes in the music we listen to, even in the movies we watch. These changes affect everyone differently. Many people fall into seasonal depression, especially with reduced daylight. So winter depression manifests itself.
What is winter depression?
The symptoms of winter depression are similar to those of classical depression. Serious changes are seen in the sleep and eating patterns of these people. The need for sleep becomes much greater than normal and certain changes are observed in food preferences. During this period, addiction to carbohydrates increases, along with weight gain. All this is accompanied by unwillingness, weakness, low energy, difficulty and unhappiness even in moving the arms and legs.
The most distinctive feature of winter depression is that these symptoms are seasonal. In other words, it is seen only a few months in the same season for at least two consecutive years, but not in other seasons.
How is it prevented?
1. Get sunlight
One of the biggest causes of winter depression is the decrease in daylight. Make sure you get enough daylight to counteract this effect. For this, wake up early, start your day early. Go outside if possible, especially during the hours when sunlight is most effective. The sunlight you get during the day will help you feel better and lively.
2. Pay attention to your sleep patterns
During this period, you may need sleep more than usual. Getting out of bed and starting the day can be harder every day. However, be careful not to change your sleep pattern, even if you make small escapes from time to time. Set certain hours for yourself to go to bed and sleep and try not to go outside of it. Sleeping more or less than normal during this period will make you feel more tired and exhausted.
3. Interact with your social circle
Although it is difficult to socialize, especially in this period, do not isolate yourself from your social environment. Get in touch with your immediate surroundings as possible. Make video calls, talk on the phone, if necessary, do activities that you cannot do face-to-face through various communication tools. But don't stop communicating and sharing with your friends and social circle. One of your most powerful weapons against depression is always your inner circle.
4. Watch what you eat
There are significant changes in our eating habits in winter. During this period, we especially tend to eat carbohydrate and fatty foods. Although this situation makes us feel good for a short time, it has the opposite effect in the long run. Since weight is gained at the end of this type of eating habit, our mood is also negatively affected. For this reason, try to consume the seasonal vegetables and fruits as much as possible and avoid fatty and calorie foods. Do not neglect to drink water.
5. Move
With the change of weather in winter, mobility is restricted in a way. Outdoor walks in summer are often delayed in winter due to cold weather. However, be careful to act during this period. Take short walks when the weather is nice. Do stretching exercises at home. The mobility you will add to your life will also reduce your fatigue and weakness.
I know we have deficiencies. Although we say we are complete, we always have something missing. Some of them lack conscience. The mercy of some. The love of some is the unfaithfulness of the others. Of course, we have missing parts.
In summary, I would like to tell you about depression;
Some complain about their shortcomings, some complain about being too complete. Some of them find their own shortcomings. Some look for others.
Dedicated to You "Make up your own shortcomings, do not look for other people". Yet how nice it would be. Something if people had found it in themselves.
My I know, where do you belong to? Its summer in India and its freaking me out lol
