Many believe that the number 13 brings misfortune since biblical times. Judas, who betrayed Jesus Christ, is claimed to have been the 13th guest at the Last Supper, so even today it is considered not good to be the thirteenth guest at the table. In the West, some even go so far as to place no. 13 put a doll or a teddy bear to break the bad karma of the most unfortunate number.

However, number 13 was perceived as unfortunate even before Christ. Namely, the historical number 12 was considered complete, that is, it signified perfection, while 13, which disturbed the natural harmony. There are 12 months of the year, 12 Olympic gods, 12 hours on the clock, 12 apostles, 12 descendants of Muhammad, 12 zodiac signs.

Superstitions regarding the number 13 are very widespread today, so in some hotels there is no room with that number, many tall buildings do not "have" the 13th floor but "jump" directly from the 12th to the 14th and in some airlines have solved to eject an unlucky number plate from the row of seats on which it should stand.

Others believe that everything originated when Philip IV of France arrested hundreds of Templars on Friday, October 13, 1307. In the story "The Da Vinci Code", Dan Brown mentions the execution of the Templar Jacques de Molay on Friday the 13th. He allegedly cursed the Pope and the King of France. It is also possible that Thomas Lawson's 1907 novel "Friday the Thirteenth" played a significant role in spreading superstition. In the novel, an unscrupulous stockbroker uses superstition to create panic on Wall Street on Friday the 13th.

Another belief is that the panic around that day was created in 1927, when the second biggest stock market crash occurred. Business failures and bankruptcies have prompted desperate brokers to throw themselves through the windows of a Wall Street building. The day was remembered as "Black Friday" and after that it instilled fear in the Americans again, and skepticism spread to the rest of the world, primarily to Europe, where Friday the 13th soon became synonymous with misfortune.

The fear of the number 13 is also related to the Norwegian myth of 12 gods who prepared a dinner attended by an uninvited thirteenth guest. He led the blind god of darkness Hoder to shoot the god of joy Balder. After he died, the whole country was wrapped in black.

This day still causes fear in many people, so many avoid doing important work on that day.

The number of properties sold fell on Friday the 13th. The survey found that between 2005 and 2012, there were 43 percent fewer transactions on Friday the 13th than on any other Friday. The worst day for real estate sales, according to this research, was Friday, May 13, 2011, when real estate sales fell by as much as 51 percent. Real estate agents claim that houses with number 13 are not so common. According to the real estate site Zoopla, only 28 percent of the streets have a house with the number 13.

For those who do not worry that the chandeliers could fall from the ceiling during the wedding, there are special offers on this day. For example, an American wedding agency offers couples a 13 percent discount for those who decide to get married there on Friday the 13th.

On this day, one option is to stay in your bed and avoid the potential bad luck that may befall you on Friday the 13th, or to ignore this superstition anyway.

There are people who believe that Friday is the 13th day when you are guaranteed to have an accident! And because of that, there are also customs among the people that force evil fate on that day. From this date, US President Franklin Roosevelt also feared.

very nice and interesting article. It's not that I don't believe, it's not that I don't believe, but if someone is told so much and there is evidence, maybe something really exists. My grandfather, for example, did nothing on Tuesdays. And it happened that on Tuesday he fell, broke his hip. After 3 months, he got to his feet a little, walked on crutches and the next Tuesday fell and broke his second hip. It was also Tuesday when he died. Maybe a person unconsciously, believing in something, causes an accident himself. .
