My Foodie Luv: Sell Your Recipes

I once watched a British murder mystery and the motive for the killings was all because the murderer thought that a recipe that made a company famous and made the owners very rich had been stolen from a family member. Since the company officials would not admit who the original recipe belonged to, the murderer decided to MAKE THEM PAY!

That's rather extreme. I don't know of any real life stories like that. (Thank goodness!) However, to my point. It is a fact that certain recipes are so unique and so delicious that the individual who created it can make a pretty penny selling it to a company or a restaurant. (Or if you're like Colonel Harland Sanders, at age 65, you could come up with your own recipe and start your own successful restaurant. As of July 2021, KFC (Kentucky Fred Chicken) is worth $10 billion. )

I'll bet if the Nobel-prize winning author Ernest Hemingway had known or even thought that his hamburger recipe was going to be loved by so many, he would have sold it! (Ernest Hemingway's Famous Hamburger Recipe | Art of Manliness)

  • FUN FACT: The Hemingway recipe was found in his home in Havana, Cuba; his fourth wife had typed it up for him; and now it is in the digitally archived files at the JFK Library.

Interesting Food History: “Monks make the mysterious drink. Chartreuse is over four centuries old, and the Charthreusian brotherhood has the manuscript of the recipe in 605 A.D called the Elixir of Life.” (Read more: The Secret Spice: 7 Heavily Guarded Billion Dollar Recipes)

But let's get back down to earth.

COOKING CONTESTS: Some people have entered contests and won prizes for their recipes that amounted to thousands of dollars. (Just Google “food competitions where you win prizes for your recipes”.)

EARN EXTRA CASH: Did you know that selling your recipes can be a great way to earn some extra cash. OK! You won't make a million dollars. But you could sell a recipe for $10 to $20; and sometimes you can sell an original recipe for $250 to $600.

Hmm. Food for thought (pun well intended). I make enough shit up in the kitchen, perhaps there is a gem or two in there worth some valuable loot?

I am probably kidding myself. But hey, it's fun to think about anyway.

I did not want to tell the ending, in case other people might want to watch it. It's a British TV series called Midsommer Murders.
