[ANN] Mythbusting 2019 holiday competition winners & more
Ladies and gentlemen, Santa dropped a note with his winning choices for the 2019 holiday mythbuster prize contest!
Without further ado:
The awards
Qualifying for the contest were all original mythbusting articles (not translations).
Note: In the case of the 2nd place choice, the author submitted at least one further translation herself, but the Spanish version was chosen as it was seen first and deemed the original. You can find a link to other language versions at the top of most of the articles, if you don't find what you are looking for you can crawl the translations post to see if it available in a language of your choice but just hasn't been referenced in the original.
1st place (1 BCH)
Cain, 'Mythbusting: 10-minute confirmation time makes Bitcoin unsuitable as a 'cash' method of payment'
2nd place (0.666 BCH)
SofiaCBCH, 'Mythbusting: "Las Criptomonedas son mas utiles para romper las leyes"' -- (English version)
3rd place (0.333 BCH)
The winners are asked to carefully confirm the payout address to which they wish their prize money to be sent. Please leave a comment underneath this post.
Update: All three prizes have been paid out (see comments section).
Note: Santa said the amount of BCH awarded to these places is not a direct reflection of the quality of the articles, submitted articles were almost ALL close in terms of quality and definitely worth a read!
Thanks to all for contributing so much in the last few weeks.
What follows is a list of all the articles that entered this competition, so readers can easily find those who were good, but narrowly missed Santa's top 3 selection.
- Complete list of eligible original articles -
@imkeshav: 'Mythbusting: Running a Bitcoin node is "expensive" if block size is bigger'
@imkeshav: 'Mythbusting: Bitcoin must have internet and a smartphone to work'
@TomZ: 'Mythbusting: Bitcoin (on its own) cannot scale'
@TomZ: 'Mythbusting: SPV is not secure'
@SofiaCBCH: 'Mythbusting: The Bitcoin blockchain is not intended for "coffee purchases" by Sofia.'
@SofiaCBCH, 'Mythbusting: "Las Criptomonedas son mas utiles para romper las leyes"'
@Cain, 'Mythbusting: LN can accommodate the entire world in a reasonable time while keeping blocks small'
@Cain, 'Mythbusting: 10-minute confirmation time makes Bitcoin unsuitable as a 'cash' method of payment'
@Mr-Zwets, 'Mythbusting: "Bigger blocks means less full nodes"'
@Mr-Zwets, 'Mythbusting:"BCH fees would also be high with increased usage"'
@AlanOne, 'Mythbusting - " Bitcoin is necessarily energy-inefficient because of POW"'
- Ineligible articles -
(nevertheless thanks to the authors for writing!)
These articles were considered ineligible either because @btfork was the author (and may not take part according to the competition rules) or in the remaining cases were deemed too far off the declared myth-busting roadmap.
In the latter case that doesn't mean they are bad - you should definitely read them and leave tips to their authors to encourage them if you like their content!
@TomZ, 'Mythbusting: We need a developer-fund'
@free-yourself, 'Mythbusting (For US citizens): “Every Crypto Transaction is a taxable Event”'
@btcfork, 'Mythbusting: big blocks => zero fees => infinite spam'
@btcfork, 'Mythbusting: "Controversial hard-forks CANNOT happen"'
What's next?
There will now be a ~ 24-hour moratorium on minting new MYTHBUSTER, until 2100 GMT on 2019-12-28.
The reserves ("the bank") of MYTHBUSTER are currently at zero (0) - fully depleted after an intentional burn ahead of the earlier 1 BCH airdrop to all token holders except ourselves.
This means right now only the contributors who have received tokens as a reward for their work (except @btcfork) hold any tokens (well, unless they've already sold or gifted or burned some away ;)
The moratorium period is intended for other people who wish to airdrop some small amounts of BCH or SLP tokens onto the contributors, as a complementary action to Santa's formal airdrop and the competition prizes. If you do, please be careful to use the correct MYTHBUSTER token id:
306036ced7666a577933130a374bd2bebe1d6cf82a3e93858f64795a267d0663
After the minting moratorium, new MYTHBUSTER will be created, put in reserve, and handed out again to contributors who have already been working on further translations and other good content.
MYTHBUSTER goes on!
This competition is not the end - we still have lots of ground to cover in terms of myths not yet written about, and I'm thinking, with Xmas 'round the bend, the Easter bunny may already be getting restive ;-)
Wishing you all good remaining holidays, and a safe passage into 2020!

[2] A leak by Santa's elves seems to confirm the closeness of the score results:
Winners, don't forget to leave your receive CashAddrs in the comments! I will only send your prize money after you confirm. It will be waiting for you as long as you take.
If anyone wishes to support future MYTHBUSTER activities or other content produced here by BTCfork, please subscribe, or become our sponsor! You can sponsor even tiny amounts - every little bit helps and is gratefully accepted.
...and you will also help the author collect more tips.
Thank You for creating this theme, made me stop procrastinating about writing these articles
