This was supposed to be my comment to @Eirolfeam2's My Top 10 Tips To Save Money As A College Student, but I just decided to use this as my next article.
Guys, whether you're a student or an adult like me, you really need to read her post. Trust me, it is something you should and will also inspire you to do something new, in case you're really not into saving.
Anyway, let's talk about saving money here. (I know I should focus on announcing the winners for my D2: Winners For The Random Upvotes Giveaway, but I will do it later. Besides, I got discouraged after receiving 100% plagiarized entries.)
First off, I learned saving money when I was a little kiddo. I used to get all my dad's coins and saved it in my piggy bank. And since I was just a kid back then, I gave every penny I saved to mom if we ran out of anything. Besides, I was just a little kiddo who doesn't need the money back then.
I continued saving money when I was in grade school. I don't use all my allowance for food. I saved some for my projects in school. I was the kind of student who doesn't ask for money from mom if I still had enough.
Then my first achievement came in when I was in college. I had only 20-30 pesos a day as my allowance. I was really the "kuripot" type or thrifty. I don't even buy a brownie even if it was only 10 pesos. For me, that was already a big thing. With my 20-30 pesos a day, I only spent half of it for the fare and snack. But guess what, I was able to save and even bought my first pair of shoes. That was my biggest achievement ever for me. This is why I believe that even with your coins, you can still save if you just really want it.
And then the real savings came in 2009 when I got my first job. I started to save 500 per salary. I was mocked by friends coz for them, saving money is useless. Still, I let them talked about me and just continued my thing. And as soon, as my savings grew to 10K, I immediately opened my first ever passbook account in BPI. After two years, I was able to save almost 70K.
Unfortunately, I had used all the money for my artificial leg's maintenance as it cost a lot. Plus, I also rewarded myself with a smartphone and my dog, Kiah. No regrets though. I believe I deserved all of those.
Then I had to close my BPI savings. After a year, I opened another bank account, and this time, I used Chinabank. For only 500 pesos, you can finally have your passbook account. As of this moment, I still don't have much coz I have other bills to pay - my PAG-IBIG and SSS loans. I think I have only 50K. Well, at least I have savings, right?
I am still the "kuripot" type but not when it comes to my furry babies and my family. When it comes to them, I am willing to spend a little extra. But after reading @Eirolfeam2, I realized maybe it's time to uninstall Shopee and only buy the essentials. HEHEHE.
