Did you know that there is another term for a person wants to who give up? It isn't suicide and isn't related to depression, it's called Psychogenic death. It is first used as a term by a US medical army for the men that held prisoners in south Korea.
Psychogenic death have 5 stages. Where an individual will experience first those stages before the last stage which is the psychogenic death.
Here are the 5 stages:
1. Social withdrawal.
It is a lack of interacting with friends and family. An individual may distance himself by the people and likes to be just on his own. He tends to avoid the people that may speak with him. This individual also avoids social gatherings, event and even important happenings.
2. Apathy.
This term reffers to lack of motivation. An individual's interest to something may not interest him anymore. It could affect an individual's job, relation to his family and even enjoy life.
3. Aboulia.
Aboulia or aboulic is an individual who's not capable to make decisions or even decide for himself. It is a conditon where it could also lead to self negleting. Where an individual will just let himself and can't take care of himself.
4. Psychic akinesia.
This is a stage where an individual can no longer pain. An individual who has this can no longer feel anything. Just for example, a girl who has this condition is walking on a wood with fire, she doesn't seem bothered about it because she can no longer feel any pain, even if her skin's already burnt.
5. Psychogenic death.
And the last and final stage, the Psychogenic death. It is the condition where no one could plead, couldn't warn and even beating wouldn't do to make him continue his life. This person already give up.
I know most of us here experienced a lot of struggles that almost make us gave up. Like for example, here on readcash. We can't think of any topic for our article and there comes a time that we just wanted to stop. Because we don't wanna do this anymore. You just felt like giving up because you thought that it is the only way. That's one example of giving up.
But I have read something in a book where it says, "If there's still 1% chance, go for it. Because it's still a chance."
That saying save my life.
I have thought so many times of giving up. My fate won't just go on it's way. I don't know if it's just me feeling so depressed or because of my situation. Ofcourse, if you don't have a mother anymore, your father is in other country, your brother is in jail, why not give up? What will keep you going? Your life's a wreck.
But life doesn't go with that. This is a survival world. When you give up, you lose. So keep going! Keep walking! We never know what will happen to us.
Think of it, when you stumbled on a rock and you fell, your knees have bruises and your hands too, would you just sit there crying like a baby and do nothing? Ofcourse not! Get up! Don't let youself laying on the ground doing nothing. If no one will help you, then help yourself!
Because life is like a turning wheel. Sometimes we're at our peak, sometimes we're on our down side. It's just like that. Don't get carried away by your emotions because sometimes our enemy is just our minds.
Just like me, I've encountered so many battles in my life. Did I end my life? No, maybe there was a time where I just want to end all the pain. But guess what, I've fought it. I won against the darkness that's keep invading my mind.
Remember, He won't give us trials that we can't overcome. He is giving that to us to prepare us for something big that may happen to us. He's giving us problems to make us strong. And giving up is not an option to escape it.
