Beauty in the ruins: Philippine historical places worth to travel

The Philippines was colonized for centuries. It was greatly manifested with the influence of cultural variations that shaped the modern day Filipino society.

For today’s blog, let us look back in Philippine history with their iconic historical tourist spots that withstand the test of time.

1. Intramuros

Intramuros is a historical area located at the country’s capital, Manila. Also called as the Wall City of Intramuros, it holds significant attribute to Philippines for being the religious and educational center of the Spanish East Indies during the Spanish colonial era.

At present day Intramuros, you can see centuries-old fortifications such as Baluarte de San diego and Fort Santiago. You can also tour around the historical place while riding a horse carriage and reliving the old Manila.

2. Paoay Church and Ruins

Ilocos Norte is a famous travel destination among local and foreign tourists travelling in the Philippines. One of the famous itineraries when visiting the region is the San Agustin church or simply Paoay church. The earthquake baroque styled architecture is a magnificent representation of how beautiful Baroque churches are during Spanish colonial era in the Philippines. Aside from this, you can also feel the unique ambience of the place for it retained its spacious and grand demeanour in its interior.

Not so far from the church are the ruins of an old convent. It was refurbished by the local government however it hold fast to its vision with additional attractions. You can tour the area alongside checking Paoay church and relive the undying beauty of the area.   

3. The Ruins in Bacolod City

The Nutsberry garden or called as the ruins of Bacolod City was built in 1920 to commemorate the owner’s late wife. For this reason, it was known as the Taj Mahal of Negros. Due to World War II, the mansion was burnt. Now, the mansion was preserved in its iconic ruin-state and open for the public. 

4. Corregidor

The rocky island that served as a base for military command during the colonial era is one of the most important historic and tourist site in the Philippines. You can check out the Pacific War Memorial, Malinta Tunnel, Filipino Heroes Memorial and Japanese Garden of Peace while learning something about the history of Philippines.
