How Corrupt Politicians Win Elections

There are reasons why and how corrupt politicians win elections.

I got many questions in my mind about elections. The questions are very common to global voters. Many voters don't consider voting a duty of the citizens. The reasons behind it are not reasonable.

Voters get surprised to see corrupt politicians win elections. In fact, many global citizens don't believe all election results. They can't accept that corrupt politicians win elections.

Some parameters are not directly in the hands of the voters. Hence, election results always don't seem to reflect the true mind of the entire voter population.

  • I explain it in the light of the "voting right of the voters" in the following sections.

Voting right is indeed a superpower for the voters

In a democracy, voting right is a superpower delegated to the voters by the constitution of the democratic nation.

  • How come corrupted politicians get elected by the common voters?

  • I received inciting comments in my last post on Sri Lanka's economic crisis.

In one such comment, a fellow blogger, @Evelyn1 , asked
"Really, Did you think our vote matter in Sub-continent?"

  • Probably,@Evelyn1referred to the Indian sub-continent, i.e., India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, etc., or the Asian countries, such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, etc., where many of us live, vote, and get frustrated by the election results. The question is valid for many other democratic nations of the globe, such as Africa, South, and North America, Europe, and Australia.

Since, years after years, the corrupt groups of politicians are getting elected, the voters are deeply frustrated about the electoral processes, and polling of votes.

  • I will disclose the reasons for such election results in the next section.

  • These reasons are based on my personal experiences and feedback from the community of local voters and some friends in the alternative news media.

The reasons how corrupt politicians win elections

You may ask whether the votes of the common citizens matter in choosing the Prime Minister, President, etc. because anyway the corrupt politicians always manage to win elections after elections.

The answer is, of course, "Yes, every vote matters." But, there are some other factors which are needed to be discussed in detail.

  • During the last six years, I carried out investigations in a few local polling booths and found worth-noticing facts about polling and casting votes by the citizens.

  • There are always some foolish citizens who are die-hard followers of their favorite political parties and blindly believe the corrupt candidates.

  • Some citizens don't cast their votes, either out of frustration or due to fear of violence near the polling booths on election days.

  • I reviewed several voting booths during the last few years. Voters in the polling booths are decreasing every year. And the ruling political parties quickly utilize the opportunity to cast massive proxy votes in the electronic voting machines.

  • Actual voters visiting the polling booths to cast their vote are hardly 50 percent, but the news portal reports above 90 percent of voting! How then could it happen? The only possibility is proxy voting (mass scale rigging) inside the polling booths!

Thus, we now have some salient reasons about why and how corrupt politicians win elections after elections with ever increasing margins against the opposition candidates.

The main problems with us, the common voters, are here

  1. Most of "us" think, "what is the value of a single vote?"

  2. "We" are influenced by pre-poll and exit-poll analyses by the mainstream news media, which are all paid/sponsored analyses by ruling political parties.

  3. "We" are influenced by the fearmongering tactics of the ruling political parties.

  4. As a result, "We" don't go to the polling booth to cast "our" votes.

  5. As a result, "We" indirectly provide "full opportunities" to corrupt politicians to exercise "proxy votes" or "mass scale rigging" inside the polling booths.

Thus, the insensitive dealing of voting processes by the common voters gives huge opportunities to the corrupt politicians to win elections by pushing mass-scale proxy votes and rigging.

Bringing it altogether

All election processes are complex, irreversible, and not easy to be correctible.

  • Hence, citizens have no other choice other than to cast their invaluable votes.

  • By exercising their voting rights, citizens can ouster corrupt politicians from winning elections and hence from forming the government.

  • Casting a vote for the most deserving candidate can only change the governance from an evil one to a better and civilized one.

I will always request all to please cast your vote. Never give any chance to the corrupt politicians for rigging and manipulation inside the polling booths.

Cheers!

Here in our country, corruption is so rampant. History repeats. During elections, vote buying is truly an issue, Sir. And then when corrupt politicians are already in service, they tend to forget the promises they have made. How sad it is that reality is controlled by money and oftentimes luxury of money becomes power. Still I would like to send hello from the beautiful Philippines.

As citizens of a country, the first contribution toward the country's betterment is to cast our invaluable vote in every election.

The corrupt people will always play their games. The citizens must not hesitate to come forward and cast their votes fearlessly and judiciously.

Some follow blindly when the obvious truth stares at them in the face. I think a lot of people are becoming wiser. If those who registered for voting do their part by actually voting, the proof would be too hard to deny. Doing our part is the only way to stop these corrupt humans to take power. They would be forced to deal with citizens rather than rely on manipulating figures.

Politicians are corrupt, all of them, at least all who achieve important positions.... otherwise they won't be allowed to be there and win... it's sad but people should understand well this and not to believe anymore in that circus.

The electoral processes are similar to any real-world business project. The ruling political parties temporarily hire highly paid media managers/consultants like CxOs to help them with electoral tactics, hiding past corruptions, facing legal battles, reporting news media, etc. The same famous political consultant may be found to work for two opposition political parties in two separate elections!

In our country the company who counts the votes is controlled by the current government, so..... it's clear what it's gonna happen.

It is worse in our country. We have 100 percent electronic voting machines (EVM), where the devices and software are by a US-based company. Nobody from our country was directly involved in designing the EVMs. So, maybe, the "big boss" country may now control our election results!

Our Election (Nigeria) is taking place next year and we're already seeing signs of the things you mention in this article. When i talk to friends they say their votes doesn't count, what difference does a single vote make.

The issue of loyalty is another big problem. People follow politicians blindly same way they follow musicians and footballers. No matter how bad the politician is, they will see no wrong in him.

The first and foremost step we (voters) can take is to go and cast our votes in favor of the most deserving candidates.

Never give any chance to the corrupt politicians and their allies (mainstream news media, a part of the election staff, and the police) to manipulate unregistered (uncast) votes inside the polling booths.

This step can help yield many good outcomes in the election results.

The people who are die hard follower of any party blindly cast their vote without knowing the importance of their vote. Our nation doesn't have awareness about the exact problems of our states and what these corrupt leaders are doing to resolve them. We need a passionate leader to rule our country who gave importance to general public issues as now-a-days rulers are playing with their emotions.

Getting a "passionate leader" is fiction. Let people vote for whatever political parties they wish to cast their vote. That is allowed in a democracy. But, all citizens must vote. And the electoral process must be fair. If more people go to cast their vote, the election duty officials and the security personnel will be compelled to work impartially.

yeap these are the authentic reasons but we have to change this corrupt process of elections. I am damn sure that 100% turn out of the people to cast their vote is the best solution for avoiding corrupted elections but other government sectors who are caring about the elections and election department also stop corrupted political parties for mass rigging though there are voters or not. Fair elections are the best thing for selecting the leaders.

You have raised a vital issue of electoral processes again.

You are correct that the electoral processes must be fair and devoid of partialities (corruption), i.e., the government officials on election duty and the police/armed forces deputed for the purpose must be vigilant for the safety and security of the voters and the electoral officials.

The corrupt electoral officials and security forces can be enforced to their duty "if and only if more voters turn to the polling booths to cast their vote."

PS. I learned of such malpractices in electoral processes in our country and other parts of the world, including in the 2020 US Presidential Election, where massive "election fraud" allegedly happened utilizing the so-called "pandemic" reason to go for postal ballots.

According to my search we can stop this corrupt voting system when we allow educated people of our country for voting. There should be qualifications for each candidate for participating on seats of Government. I know these talks are theoratical and practical aspect needed many things so far.

Education may not eradicate corruption. There are plenty of highly educated politicians in the world who won elections with a thumping majority, but they are highly corrupted.

In our country, all corrupt political parties have many highly educated members. And these highly educated politicians are the mouthpiece of these corrupt political parties for making false propaganda to the citizens.

You are right most voters, fear trouble setting at the polling unit, so instead of them to go, they will stay back, given the corrupt politician access for mass rigging of the election

If we, the citizens, go to the polling booths to cast our votes, the corrupt politicians will be afraid to try malpractices of rigging.

You got it well. If the number of registered voters are 1,000 and 200 comes out to vote, the remaining untouched figure(800) gives the currupt political party upper hand to manipulate
