Gambling

Have you ever entered into gambling?

When I was a kid, we used to go to fairs in our small town.

In village fairs, we saw a number of sellers sitting with different types of games and gambling. They used to offer people entry into gambling games to earn big items with a single rupee ticket, such as a transistor radio, a gramophone player, a mini cinema projector, and many interesting items.

There used to be consolation prizes, such as a simple pen, a soap case, a key ring, a comb, a nail cutter, etc. Most of the time, people used to get those consolation prizes. I never saw anybody winning big prizes which were displayed to attract the crowd.

Any gambling of any sort is similar in functioning. People will buy lottery tickets every week, month, and throughout the year. The ticket sellers display old ticket numbers which won first prizes on tickets sold from the very seller.

People aspire to win big prizes and buy lottery tickets from famous shops.

Success in blogging seems like a gamble

  • Success in blogging can't be directly correlated with the efforts of bloggers. There are bloggers who are excellent writers but seldom get big success in publishing their blogs.

I see topics in blogs that are like designs of dresses in fashion shows. There is hardly any difference in the designs of dresses. But, a famous designer gets a massive rate in showing the same banal designs repeatedly.

  • There is no sure-shot formula for getting success in blogging. When a blogger posts an article, there is little guarantee that the consumers will seriously read the article.

If the article attracts the viewers' attention, it is somewhat like winning a token prize in a gamble. If many viewers click support, it is like winning a small prize in a gamble. And, if the article goes viral, it is equivalent to winning the first prize in a big lotto.

Good topics may appeal to sensible readers

  • Bloggers have to keep in mind that a good topic and decent writing can give them success. Sensible readers like good topics. Serious readers put the time to read blogs seriously.

A bunch of sensible readers can not push a blog article to go viral. A huge number of clicks are essential to make a blog go viral. Those pushes come from the very common consumers who don't have time to read but follow only the catchy titles and pictures.

  • How to make a blog title that can attract the mass is not written in any book or blogging guides. Bloggers can try good topics and catchy titles. Finally, it is their luck if the title goes through the initial rounds of clicks from a good number of serious readers.

In the end, the decisive judgment is given by the common consumers who may follow the feed and click it to virality. Otherwise, the blog will remain a low-read quality article.

The algorithm may like rambling than thoughtful blogs

  • Now, let us come to writing on blogging platforms where the rewards come mostly from algorithm-driven non-human accounts. How do you get success in getting support from the algorithm? Nobody has the answer, but everybody wants to know the know-how.

As per a brief personal study, I am of the view that the algorithm may prefer ramblings to serious topics. Dairy-like rambling may get more attention than a technically sound article on any topic.

  • If one utilizes the technique published in a recent article, "Blogging Analytics," one can find out the facts about the degree of support blogs get from the platform's algorithm and the human readers.

Are the blogs the best blogs that get maximum algorithmic support and minimum human support or vice versa? This is a serious question.
But, how many of you are interested to ask this question?

Closing remarks

Blogging is a part of the big gamble of life.

  • We may stick to the randomness of the gambling game of blogging or try to define our finite techniques based on well-structured writing methodologies.

In a software-driven blogging monetization space, we don't have enough choices to go with our own finite plans other than joining the gambling game.

  • We can only hope blogging gambling will continue to bring success to most bloggers for a long time.

One silly question:
Have you thought about what would you do if the gambling stop to exist?

Not really a gambler but I understand that writing here is like gambling for you don't know what you can get. Some have posted about their observations but no one has figured out the algorithm just yet I think.

That is true. The uncertainty of algorithmic support is a (de)motivating factor that gives rise to a gambling-like feature.

It's really amazing the way you linked gambling and blogging. Blogging definitely has it's risk and we need to take note of that

The unpredictability of success in blogging forced me to link it with gambling.

"Have you ever wondered what to do if gambling ceases to exist?" I think this would make many wives happy!
