Actions are described as the steps or things done to accomplish a particular task. For example; you drinking a cup of water can be described as an action taken to quench your thirsty, or to stay hydrated.
You might not be necessarily be thirsty before you take a cup of water, it might be from the thoughts of how important the body needs regular intake of water that prompted you to drink the glass of water in the first place.
Our actions are controlled by our thoughts. It is a rule guiding everyone on earth. The way you think decides the way you take actions. There's a popular saying that says; "the way a man thinketh, so will he act".
What controls our thoughts?
Have you ever wondered what generate or influence our thoughts. Our thoughts are guided by a lot of elements. The major key to creating a thoughts is one’s understanding.
For example; the action of nurse or doctor to a wounded patient would be quite different to the actions of an illiterate or someone with little or no medical exposure.
The doctors or the nurses know how dangerous it is for them to come in contact with the blood of a wounded person, because they definitely know that diseases like HIV and AIDS can be spread when the blood of a carrier comes in contact with an open part of their skin.
All the knowledge, understanding and years of experience give birth to their thoughts on to solve any medical case. They think of the best way to address a particular situation because even though cases might be similar every case is unique on its own.
Every thought we carry out are as a result of the knowledge and understanding we have of the particular issue.
For example when I was kid when I need to know the number of items in an array; I have to count the items one by one. But my advancement in education taught me that there is an easier method to count an array which by multiplying the number of items in horizontal line by its vertical or vice versa.
You're being influenced!
But what happens when we don’t have the knowledge of a particular thing and we need to make a thought on that issue and take an action.
Well every humans have like and dislike and the way we view things are influenced by: our taste, what we know of similar topics or event, what we see, or what we might have heard. All these and more have big influence on our thoughts thereby on our actions.
Everyday we are being influenced unconsciously by the mainstream media, the social medias, by our friends and family. Most of our ideas we have on a particular topic or subject are formed from all these influences.
For example, when you compare the actions and thoughts about "marriage or children upbringing" of someone raised in America or any European countries to that of someone raised in Africa or Asia. There would be definitely a vast difference in thoughts and actions.
We are being massively influenced by our immediate surrounding, and they make up our thoughts.
Enlightenment
Why do some people then have contrary opinions from their immediate surrounding on some particular matters? Well it definitely happens because we humans are capable of receiving enlightenment and choosing what we wish to believe in despite influences being around.
Enlightenment also have sources too and can be from a positive influence.
Let make use of an example to explain better. In my country a lot of people are very fond of dumping dirty on the road and it has become a norm that nobody seems to pay attention to or to correct.
When I was a kid I often watch and heard about how neat abroad countries are compare to my country. And I found that these countries are neat because they have efficient waste collection system and the citizens of the country abide by the rules of waste disposal as they rarely drop dirty on the floor.
After learning this, it shaped my thought and I resolved to make a change by not following the trend in my country.
Enlightenment is one of the ways by which man's intellect is being expanded and it can come from self discovery, imitating or through one's experience.
I would end this article with a quote from the book titled; "The richest man in Babylon" by George S. Clason.
“our acts can be no wiser than our thoughts, our thinking can be no wiser than our understanding"
The fact that you mention that we are influenced by what we watch on media or any other place can be a topic on its own.. I also say this, our sub conscious mind is always active when we are awake, things we see and didn't take note of are there, that's why some words come out of mouth, words we didn't plan for, and you would be wondering, how do I know about this or learn it from.. In fact, of character can be influenced too
