Covetousness is an inordinate longing after things that belong to others. it is to yearn for another's procession.

Gehazi was a servant of a powerful man. Naaman was a soldier but he had a very terrible sickness of leprosy. He never liked his condition despite his position in his country. He heard about Gehazi's master and then traveled far to meet him so that he would be healed. He met with the powerful man and told him about his sickness. The antidote was prescribed for him and he did everything he was supposed to do.

At the end, Naaman was healed and his skin became clean like that of a baby, without spot. It was great. He appreciated the man and brought clothes, food, horses and gold to give to Gehazi's master but he rejected them. He told the man to go in peace. Naaman was very grateful.

Gehazi didn't like what his master did and decided to find a way to get his own portion. He looked around after some time and followed after the soldier. When he met him, he lied that his master just had two unexpected visitors and needed some clothes. Naaman released some clothes to him and added other things to it. Gehazi collected them and hid the materials in his house. He went back to meet his master's house.

His master then called him and ask where he had been. He lied again that he didn't go anywhere. His master said his eyes was going with him in the spirit when he collected the clothes. He then placed a curse on him that the sickness of Naaman be on him and his generations. That was how Gehazi brought problem on himself and his innocent family because of covetousness.

You might have found yourself in this kind of situation whereby you don't know the reason why you convet. When we look around us, there are so many things we want to get for ourselves ranging from the latest mobile devices to clothes, shoes, hairstyles, bags and so on. Buy only what you need and not what you want. Ultimately, pray to God for help.

Thanks for reading.

What Gehazi did was indeed covetousness and should be totally abstained from, but I hold the notion that his master should have been a little more lenient.

Old testament sins received immediate punishment but since Christ came, we have grace to repent.

Good lesson, we shouldn't do against the will of God just because we are envious with someone and we want to get same things. We should pray that God give us if we really NEED it.
