What is Punctuality? In simple terms, punctuality is nothing but “Being on time”. We usually develop this habit from our early years as a part of discipline and hopefully carried on throughout our lives. Punctuality is not a defined subject for a particular age. You see it through out your life as you start from your schooling, it comes along till you receive your graduation certificate, then you get a girlfriend, you go to office, attend your own wedding, later birthdays, occasions, and what not. The only place that should not be punctual is death. Let it come when it comes Lol.
So, why it comes along with us? Why this is very important? What makes a person being special when he/she is punctual? What are its uses? Let us see below..
Being Punctual means getting the best:
There is a small story to explain this. There were so many kids who were living in one vicinity and a local fruit vendor used to sell fruits every day in the streets. One day, all the kids asked him why he don’t give free fruits for kids. He laughed and said, “I will get them tomorrow. But come by this time to pick the best of what I get”. Next day, few kids were on time and they got nice juicy mangoes and few kids were late only to get rotten. When asked the vendor why he brought rotten, he explained them one thing “being on time means getting the best”. The kids apologized to him and he took the rotten away and gave them good fruits. And they were never late again.
Builds Trust:
When you are on time or even before time, it means you are building a trust for yourself to other people that you are always there whenever expected. If you keep delaying, people would never ever call you for anything, which means it shows that you care the least and remember, what you give is what you get ultimately.
Builds Confidence:
Whether it is a school or college or an office meeting, being on time builds confidence to both you and the speaker because you heard everything from the beginning. Repetition of things are very much avoided when you are on time and no steps or actions are missed.
Ex: take a drawing session, you are supposed to color a donkey, when you are late, the master instructs to color each part individually, and you would be coloring the tail when others almost finish theirs. Just imagine your donkey now.
Builds Remembrance and Recognition:
People remember us more when we are famous. How to become one? Just come on time and see the difference. When you are constantly on time, you are put in a positive group by the organizers and when next time a meeting is held, people would remember and awaits for our precious arrival which means we are automatically recognized.
Makes you a Leader:
Even though you do not know how to become a leader, being on time makes you one. That is the biggest advantage here because you build so many followers, and stand out among other audience who are always late. These people questions you about lot of things they missed because they were not on time, and when you finished explaining them, you are a leader in their eyes.
Being on Time Avoids useless Attention:
Well, this is one of my favorite points for why one has to be on time. Well its simple. Imagine you are in a serious meeting with room full of your process mates, with senior management and head of the department also, your manager started to upload his knowledge to your brains and he is at peak of his conversation and suddenly the door springs to open only to see a pale faced guy standing with a tired face and asking “May I come in”… how awkward right? So, be on time and avoid this useless attention
Gives you a Content:
Not a content that you read or write. I’m talking about the satisfied feeling. Being on time gives you a satisfaction that you are not running behind to catch a bus, running to a restaurant to meet your first date only to get slapped because you made her/him wait for long, running to eat or even running to pee sometimes. If you are not on time, your pants shows..
Makes you more organized:
Being on time makes you more organized because if you could manage time and go to wherever you go on time, it shows to everyone that you are person who is capable of or has capacity to handle things. Your schedules are met and doing things looks easier and targets are easily met.
Your respect towards others is showed off:
Being on time makes you special always and others would think that you always respect them and their events which in turn shows you as a caring person. Imagine if they call you to attend a wedding and you go to the time of barbecue??
Being on time gives you more time:
We always complain ourselves that 24 hours is not sufficient for us per day. But if you are on time, you actually see to it that you have enough time for implementing your plans.
Take an example of a project meeting: For those people who were late, they first has to listen to everything from the scratch, discuss again and start working and by the mean time you would have finished the project at least 30% which gave you an upper hand against them. Also, those people who are late not only waste their own time, but also waste others.
Being Punctual Avoids Conflicts:
When you are on time and when the event starts happening after you arrive, it means you see, listen and understand everything and hence, decision making becomes quiet easy in most of the cases. While you come in between and miss vital points, you would be ignored in many eyes and things gets worse. And if still suggest something without even hearing the complete information, you always end up in conflicts.
Being late means giving chance to people to make fun out of you:
I shall explain this with an example. This is actually an incident that happened to one of my friends where he got insulted because he was late to an interview. On the day of the interview was scheduled, he reached the corporate where the interviewers already finished conducting two rounds for the post of team leader and they noticed him and insulted him in front of everyone saying, “we do not have team leader post for late comers. Instead we could give you office boy post. Would you be interested?”. This is a great insult but from that day, he was never late. He could have learnt this before facing the humility. As they say, prevention is always better than cure.
Being on time strengths relationships:
Boyfriends and girlfriends understand this very well. And for the newly dating ones, if you are late to see your new love, you may not see her again at all. Being on time is one of the determinants that impresses your girl/boy. And for those who are in love from months, being on time strengthens your relationship because it shows you would be there for them when they need.
Being punctual avoids prejudices:
If you are late always, you automatically form an opinion in people’s mind that you are always irresponsible and you are endangered to be people having a prejudice impression on you. To avoid that, you have to be on time. You might say, how dare people form judgments, but that's how society works.
That's all for now folks, hope you enjoyed reading this and learned one thing or two... let's always be on time shall we??
Thank you sponsors, ya'll the loves of my life
