How to control test anxiety ?
Anxiety is feeling of weirdness and mixed feelings about a particular thing. We seem nervous. We find ourselves in a huge dilemma. We are not finding the way and want to escape. Anxiety is defined differently by different people who are facing these situations.
Test anxiety is a common thing:
It is a common thing that whenever a student has to take exam/test he feels anxiety and most of the students are reluctant to take exam. Almost every student want to study but they don't want to go through the exam system.
No doubt, exams are the main part of academic life. Exams are kind of filters and they filter the student. There are so many people who are exam system and they show hate towards grading system giving a valid point that grades have no role in the professional life and it should not be the criteria of checking the intelligence and eligibility of a person.
Exam system is spread across the all educational system in the whole big world means this anxiety is everywhere in this world.
There are so many "what if" questions which bring anxiety and become cause of depression.
What if I will fail the test/exam ?
What if I will pass the test/exam ?
What will people say after this test?
What if this question will be a part of test or not ?
What if teacher will be against me?
What I will tell to my parents ?
What will be result ?
What if teacher will be strict in marking?
There are simple answer of all these questions. Popping up such questions in ones mind is a common thing that is not a big deal. A student mind always revolve around grades and studies.
The simple answer is your hard work. You will achieve the goal for which you are doing hard work. If a student is doing his best and he is not doing procrastination then no doubt in which condition he is taking exam if he has positive and optimistic approach then he will achieve whatever he wants in his life.
How to cope with test anxiety ?
No matter how much confident you are. But when it comes to exams you feel anxiety. There are different ways to cope with test anxiety but firstly you have to determine/check at which point you are facing anxiety.
Jot down main points :-
If you are anxious about your performance in exam and you are finding any concept difficult for you to crack. There is a simple way to do this work without having any little dose of anxiety. Come prepared with that concept and if you still have fear that you will forget the whole concept then you should jot down main points of that particular concept on back side of your question paper now your mind will feel free because the one topic which is extremely important and is one main question in your exam , plus it was previously hard for you now is easy to write due to your strong strategy.
Wear your favourite dress :-
No matter what type of dresses we want to wear but surprisingly we all have at least one favourite dress in our wardrobe. According to researchers, we feel positive vibes when we are wearing our favourite colour or favourite dress because we are in our best and it gives us confidence to withstand in complicated situations. When you are facing anxiety about your test like if you're going to take the most difficult paper of your semester then you should wear your favourite dress.
Enter with a smiley face and greet others
One of bad habit of many of the students is binding with book even before the five minutes of paper. Keep in mind that preparation is that which you have done in your hostel or at home. If you are still standing outside with a book and you are still memorizing the same concept then anxiety will takes you to another land. You should feel free before starting the exam you should be there with your smiley face because it will give you confidence and you should engage with other mates.
Bottle of water or chew gum :
If you are mentally bothered even you are fully prepared for the test then you should have a bottle of water along wit you there are many students you might have seen who use to have chew gum in mouth while they are attempting their exam it is helpful in decreasing your anxiety level.
Have an anxiety free life
