Double Dating
Today was supposed to be a happy day for me and my family. I would be joining them after spending 3 years away in the big city. Not like they knew I would be coming home. It was a planned surprise. I missed my elder sister so much. She would be the most surprised to see me because when I spoke to her on the phone yesterday, I told her I wouldn't be coming home any time soon. It was during that phone call that she told me he brought home a man. They had known each other for two years. He was based in the city but occasionally made time to visit and build a relationship with her. He was already going to marry her and just needed to meet and familiarize with her family. I was so happy for her.
When I got home, I could hear the laughter from inside the house. It looked like they were eating lunch. When I pressed the door bell, I could hear daddy's gruntled voice saying, "who is disturbing our wonderful family lunch". My younger brother opened the door and was surprised to see it was me. He shouted, "big sis is back" but was shouted at by Dad who said, "allow who is in the city to enjoy her studies. Don't make me miss her by calling her name anyhow".
Such sweet dad. He was shocked when he heard my voice saying it was really me at the door. Trust him to leave the dinning room to come check if it was truly me or an imitation. He gave me the biggest hug.
My mood changed to shock and disbelief when I was led into the house by Dad and little bro. Sitting on the dinning with my sister was my worst nemesis. He still had that crooked smile on his face. The smile he had deceived and hurt me with in the city. The smile faded from his face when he saw me.
Before my sister could register her surprise over seeing me all of a sudden, I asked her if the guy sitting at the dinning missed his road or he was her soon-to-be husband, the one she claimed to have dated for two years. I was shocked when she replied in the positive. That guy was my boyfriend as well.
I also met him two years ago in the city. He was sweet and nice to me until we moved in together last year. He would beat and later apologise with gifts. Sometimes, he spent weeks outside and my questioning him would result to assult. He would tell me sweet words to gain forgiveness and I would forgive him. He went out from the house last week and I finally had the time to think about my life. I decided to come back home to my family and never go back to that monster, but unexpectedly, he is thesame sweet boyfriend my elder sister was talking about.
My sister noticed the way I was staring at her supposed boyfriend and so wanted to know if I had anything to do with him or knew who he was. I couldn't even reply her.
I looked at the bottle of wine kept on the dinning table and I knew that no prophet was needed to foretell that a certain guy would be spending at least three months on a hospital bed.
