Sleeping with Wet Hair

I grow up with the advice of my mother and grandmother that I should not sleep with my hair wet.

But is it really a bad idea to sleep with wet hair?

Having heard your mother's warnings against catching a cold from sleeping with damp hair, have you ever taken a late-night bath but you're too exhausted to dry your hair? Well, these things might happen.

Occurence of dandruff

Bacteria and fungus thrive in warm, moist environments, such as your pillow and your scalp as you sleep. Your hair's natural oils are also stripped away when you sleep with wet hair since the pillow's fabric quickly absorbs the extra moisture.

Dandruff may form on your scalp as a result of bacterial development and the loss of natural oils. This causes hair to become brittle and drab

You might also have pimples as a result of it.

Acne is more likely to come out if your pillow is infested with germs. Drying your hair before going to bed can do wonders for the health of your skin.

Your pillows may be hiding something from you.

Bacterial growth is accelerated when water and heat are present, as we know. Imagine how much germs would develop on your pillow if you sleep with damp hair. As your head heats the moist pillow, it will become a great breeding ground for deadly germs and molds.

Even if you assume that often switching up your bedding would help, the wetness from your hair has already permeated the pillow.

Damage to hair follicles might result.

Wet hair is more fragile. Leaving your hair wet while you sleep increases the risk of breaking since wet hair is weaker than dry hair. Friction, which occurs as you toss and turn, makes your hair more likely to break than it would be if it were dry. Sleeping with damp hair will make you feel colder, especially if you're in an air-conditioned room or it's the middle of winter.

Maintaining the natural shine is essential.

Your hair's natural oils are absorbed into the pillow's fabric along with the water. Without these oils, your hair would seem lifeless and dry. As a result, hair that is too dry is more susceptible to breakage. Remember that there is a great difference between dry hair and hair that has been stripped of its natural oils.

A perfect breeding ground for germs and fungi is created when sweat and natural sebum mix together. Moisture levels in the hair are just right for hair to continue to develop and flourish. With an oily scalp, this problem will be aggravated in hot and humid conditions.

Final Remarks:

If you go to sleep with damp hair, it’s going to dry in some very odd form. When you wake up, you won't be pleased with the outcome of that decision. It will be difficult to get a good night's rest if your pillow is damp from your wet hair. Taking your time to dry your hair is probably worthwhile.

As a result, you'll have foul-smelling hair and a scratchy scalp. So certainly, I would advise against going to bed with damp hair and instead recommend spending the additional time drying it thoroughly.

Learned a lesson. It became my hobby to sleep with my wet hair as I became sleepy after I having a shower. I didn't know about these until now. I will not sleep with my hair wet again.

Thanks for sharing. I sometimes sleep with my wet hair. It just makes me too sleepy after taking a bath. 😅 Even though I know that it's bad for my health.

You should always remember to dry your hair, my friend. Yes, it makes us lazy but we should instill it in mind that it is important that our hair is dry before we sleep. ☺️
