A wonderful night to you my readers. With excitement and happiness, I am here to share a new article from me. It is all about describing a city. So if you are interested, we will start now with a question.

How would you describe your city?

The community that we belong to is not a city but rather a town.

A city is known for more advance and bigger community while a town, on the other hand, is an ordinary place which is smaller than a city. Our town or municipality is named Santo Domingo and belongs to the first district of the province of Ilocos Sur. It has an area of 55.49 km2 composing of 36 barangays and is considered as one of the municipalities having the greatest number of barangays in the province.

Sto. Domingo had great developments over the past years but unfortunately slowed down since the start of this pandemic Our town is filled with different places that tourists, local or foreign can visit, like beaches, mountains and falls. It has made a lot of progress and has been receiving a lot of recognition nationally. Lately, we’ve been awarded as one of the best third-class municipalities which made our town to earn reputation and good image.

Here is another question to be answered.

What is your city known for?

Our town Santo Domingo is known for its old moniker “Paggapuan ti Santol ti Domingo,” an Ilokano term meaning “The source of the Santol sold every Sunday.” Even before the 20th century, people have been celebrating the feast of the town by decorating santols around jeeps or any other vehicles used in float parade.

This has been the culture for years and santol has been selected as the One Town One Product (OTOP). But in the latter, it has been changed to squash as the OTOP. Now at the present, our town’s OTOP is squash and many products are made out of it with squash noodles as one example. And now, we are known as one of the most improved and developed third-class municipality in the country. Thus, the town continues to aim higher and to be more developed.

The last but not the least question is here.

What makes your city a global city?

Sto. Domingo is a global city/town because we accept and encourages tourists to come and visit our place. Being a global city means known to local and foreign countries. As a developing town, we strive to be more developed in order to make our town enjoyable and fun for tourist, local or foreign. Our town also accepts international trades and foreign businessmen to start business here.

With this, it will boost the progress and development of the town to make it more active globally. With the determination of the people to participate global and the continuation of the good leadership and governance of the town, it will be a great help in making our town a more global city.
