History Of Independence of the Filipinos
Remember that Spanish came from the Philippine Island and colonised the entire country?
Yep, it happened. That's what we learned from our history class since elementary.
The Filipinos suffered from Spaniards' power for over 300 years! And during Spanish-American war, Filipinos rebels led by Emilio Aguinaldo, also known as the first and the youngest President of the Philippines, declared the independence of the Philippines on June 12, 1898.
...By mid-August, Filipino rebels and U.S. troops had ousted the Spanish, but Aguinaldo’s hopes for independence were dashed when the United States formally annexed the Philippines as part of its peace treaty with Spain...”
“...Then, on 1935, Philippines became a self-governing commonwealth. Manuel Quezon was elected [as] president and was tasked with preparing the country for independence after a 10-year transition...”

In 1942, Japan occupied The Philippine Islands during World War II, but US and the Philippines joined forces and fought together during 1944-1945.
Then on July 1946, United States declared full independence to the Republic of The Philippines.
The flag was designed by Emilio itself, and was sewed by Dona Marcela Marino de Agoncillo, with the help of her daughter Lorenza and Mrs. Delfina Herbosa de Natividad, niece of Dr. Jose Rizal, the National Hero.
Then that first flag, waved by Emilio on June 12.
What a history! Many events happened, but the country claimed its independence on 1946!
Why Acknowledge This Holiday?
This day, helped us be freed from any country that may colonise us during that time.
This marks our nation's freedom, with the of US, after 300 years of Spanish rule. And we celebrate our 124 years of independence, right now! History never dies! And it will always remembered!
