World Teachers' Day is celebrated every year on October 5th. This day is an opportunity to show that the work of teachers is recognized as one of the most important for the overall development of society and that it is appreciated as such. The goal of World Teachers' Day is to mobilize support for teachers to ensure that teachers continue to meet the needs of future generations and to raise education to a level of social importance and to bring teachers out of semi-anonymity and give them the social importance they deserve.
It is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of the work of all teachers and their impact on the development of society as a whole, and to emphasize the importance of the profession, but also the education of which they are holders, so this day is celebrated in more than 100 countries, and so in Croatia. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1994 in commemoration of the same date in 1966 when the Recommendation on the Status of Teachers was signed.
I have been working at the Desanka Maksimovic Elementary School in Priboj for less than 25 years. I graduated from the Pedagogical Academy, and then the Faculty of Teacher Education in Belgrade. I graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Department of History. Even today, children are much different. Children are freer in behavior, asking questions, expressing opinions and attitudes.
The position of teachers in Serbia today is not in an enviable place. We are faced with low incomes and insufficient number of students, so every year is a matter of survival of the teacher's job. Although values in society have long devalued, I think they can be found working with children .
I love my calling and I would choose it again.I think I work with the same zeal as in the beginning and that positive energy fills me, Each generation of students is a new emotional story that is never forgotten and in which my heart is wounded again.Farewells are hard with Thursdays and next year brings you new joys, new challenges, gaining knowledge ...obligation, nurture camaraderie, to help each other.
In addition to regular classes, extracurricular activities that students enjoy are very important. They certainly satisfy and can expand students' interests, inclinations and abilities for certain areas of life, work and creativity. It develops creativity, contributes to socialization and motivates students.
We participate in literary and art competitions, music festivals, conventions, environmental workshops, humanitarian actions ...
There were really a lot of emotional moments in each generation. Successes, winning awards, students going to another city, farewell events.
My first generation graduated from college, They often call me, visit me, send a message. There are memories that no one can erase.
Working in education with children is a special feeling!
