I like to 'shoot' the birds I see in my yard, and these are the 5 kinds of woodpeckers I have been lucky enough to see here. #1. Red-bellied woodpecker #2. Red-headed woodpecker #3 Yellow-bellied sapsucker #4. Downy woodpecker #5. Northern Flicker All of these shots are male, with the possible exception of #2, male and female red-headed woodpeckers have the exact same plumage.

This Northern Cardinal and I have something in common, we're both bald. lol It's molting time for the cardinals and I've had several (both male and female) show up recently that look like someone's been yanking their feathers out. Even when shown evidence - written by their own hand - that the tale they are telling is not true, they still insist it happened. I love seeing these coming towards me down the highway, but having a top road speed of only 30 mph/48.3 kph means I did not enjoy being stuck behind it for 6 minutes on the highway yesterday. For those unfamiliar, this is a crop sprayer.

Shot this in the flower bed out front this afternoon. The second photo shows exactly how small this spider is. This is a Venusta Orchard Spider, an extremely small orb-weaver. 4:30 A.M. visitor in the front yard, busily looking for dropped seed at the base of one of the bird-feeder poles. Japanese beetle on the front screen door. Very pretty bugs with highly a iridescent carapace, but unfortunately also voracious eaters that can quickly destroy rosebushes and other ornamental plants/flowers.

I'm really beginning to lean towards black & white for some photos. At times color is necessary, such as if I want to show photos of a red-headed woodpecker and not a black-headed one, or most flower photos, but there are many instances when a b&w photo actually fits the subject better. When you glance out the front door and almost shoot coughee out of your nose. Lord I wish we could post video here, because ol' squirrel realized it was in a predicament and started trying to figure out a way past the line of cats to its tree. I was awakened at 1 AM by this racket coming through the bedroom window from my back yard. I stood listening for a few minutes, then got my camera (to dark to see anything but I could get the audio) and recorded for almost 10 minutes. Afterwards I took a flashlight and went outside, and all I could make out were FIVE sets of eyes glowing at me from about 30 feet/9 meters up in a tree. Three of the young raccoons decided to come to the front yard and get a bite or two of some corn early this morning (4:30 AM). Per usual, as long as I stay on the porch, they do not mind me taking photographs of them. Not sure what happened but I had a squirrel show up this afternoon that is missing its tail. Pretty sure it won't survive long, that tail is a major part of how they keep their balance and also helps 'aim' when they jump from limb to limb. Poor thing. :-(

Okay, I've always thought these were gorgeous and I knew they were a lily but not what kind it was, and I STILL don't know because there are a couple of different types that look similar. But they are still gorgeous. Th stems are not strong enough to stand upright so I have to 'stake' them each year or they lay on the ground and the blooms get ruined. #lily #flowers

Not very good sleeping weather. It only cooled down to 86 °F/30 °C in the bedroom last night so sleep was rather fitful with much tossing and turning. I wouldn't have gotten any sleep if it wasn't for the fan on the nightstand. Normally I would have moved to the couch in the living room and turned on the A/C and slept there, but a severe price-hike in electricity made my bill shoot up from $47 one month to $78 the next, and that was without much usage of the A/C unit. Reflections upon refractions in the night. Early morning thunderstorm dumped a LOT of rain all at once today. Some of the shots came out looking like blurred starfields high in the sky, but they are all simply reflections of the flash and refractions of the street light shining through it as it fell.

I retired from running sound for live bands and sold my equipment January 20th, 2020. Due to COVID, the guy didn't come to get it until April 25th, 2021 (with the agreement I would come and do the equipment install later). Tomorrow, I am finally installing it. Oddly enough, it was 1 year 3 months and 5 days from the day he agreed to buy it to the day he picked it up, and tomorrow will be 1 year 3 months and 5 days from the day he picked it up to the day I am installing it.
