More than 70 trials of different treatments for coronavirus are simultaneously taking place in the USA. Specialists are investigating both therapeutic methods and vaccines, said President Donald Trump.

“Now 72 active trials are being conducted in the USA. Personally, I prefer medical methods because they help people right away,” the American leader quotes.

Previously, doctors said that creating a vaccine against coronavirus would take at least 12-18 months from the start of a pandemic. The total number of people infected with the new virus in the USA is 782 thousand people, 41 816 patients died from complications of the disease, 72 thousand were cured. The data is published by Johns Hopkins University, which maintains statistics on incidence. The pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 was announced by the World Health Organization on March 11th.

There are a ton of great clinical trials going on in the US for efficacy against COVID-19, one of the strangest ones involve super-high doses of famotidine (Pepcid) given IV, at about 9 times the normal dose. Apparently, the mechanism of action could theoretically inhibit reverse transcriptionase, which prevents the "transcription" part of the viral reproduction cycle.

Who knows if it will have any effect...evidence from China show that the poorest people with COVID did better than some of the wealthier subsets of the population, and in investigating why, the common denominator was that they overwhelmingly used cheap Pepcid as opposed to the wealthier people who employ name brand drugs like Prevacid to treat their heartburn.

But the push it on. Something will work, it's just matter of discovery, now!

Of course. Speaking of where the political/financial interests are at odds, California's large venues (theaters, concert venues, theme parks, campus events, etc) will not be allowed to reopen until California's final phase of reopening (Phase IV), which requires "therapeutics" to be developed and in-use -- something that could take more than a year.

That's like a torpedo slamming into a very, very large industry.
