Let me tell you about one little experiment that we're working on. A lot of new authors on read.cash complain that it's pretty hard to get a paid upvote. **And that's true**. We want to try to change that situation. To support our users we created what we call "the read.cash fund". It's not a fund in the traditional sense, but rather a collective initiative where each participant agrees to pay read.cash authors some amount daily. The fund exists only in the browsers of donors (we are not holding donors money, their browsers do). Since they always control their money, they can cancel their pledge at any time. *Which also means that the payments are done only when donors come online.* **If you believe in Bitcoin Cash** you can pledge some amount to support the active users of read.cash and thereby bring more people to the world of Bitcoin Cash. Our fund has sponsored thousands of users. https://read.cash/stats#Funded_/_tipped_users **For active users of read.cash** it means that every article, every comment, every upvote, nearly every action that you do on read.cash, gets you a chance to get a little bit from the fund. The fund is then distributed via TheRandomRewarder as detailed in this article. https://read.cash/@TheRandomRewarder/have-i-tipped-you-a12541ca This means that those with money can support more authors than they previously could with upvotes. We hope to support hundreds to thousands of users with the fund. Nothing prevents it from supporting millions of users if it's successful though. **The goal of the fund is to help real authors and the users who are genuinely doing something valuable (publishing interesting information, leading interesting discussions), not those who think they are being paid per any mindlessly typed character.** Note: we won't be taking *any* fees from the fund usage. 100% goes directly to the people you support. We will spend the fund according to our own internal schedule, trying to keep enough in the fund to pay authors for at least next year. Why should I pledge any Bitcoin Cash to the fund? Well, the more people get to use Bitcoin Cash, the more popular it gets, bringing more economic freedom and equality to the world. If you need a more personal reason: bringing people to Bitcoin Cash (and that's what read.cash does) not only creates awareness, but also the demand for Bitcoin Cash, which in turn *increases the price*. So glad to see you guys are still building. I believe a site like read.cash is needed in this world but there's obviously going to be a ton of growing pains. Yours.org and Honest.cash did not innovate enough in my opinion but I think the read.cash team is much more capable. Just my two cents, but in addition to added features and innovations like the fund, I also think the look of the site is going to be key. The more polished it looks, the more inviting it will be to new users. I know that's easier said than done, however, so please keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words! As for the site polish - it really depends on being able to hire a good designer in the future. We're doing all we can, but we're programmers, not designers :)

"Note: We are a bit worried that this might incentivize people to leave bad comments just for the sake of the action, like: "Good article", "Nice!", "Well said" or something along the lines, so we're reserving the right to change how the user rating is calculated at any moment." what about only counting comments that get upvotes by others? You could be emphazising on the upvote feature being used as curation. Also maybe a minimum of characters or words would be a suggestion for a "quick and dirty" method.
Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, we have a few ideas about that, some of them pretty similar to yours, but we'll see how the situation develops. One thing though is we can't easily use upvotes in their current form for this, because it's very easy to upvote yourself (anonymously or even from another account). So, we'll have to experiment with the mix of rules and detection mechanisms.
not sure I like this idea. won't that invite bullshit comments? also: I would like to opt out of receiving anything from the fund. can you please offer such an option?
About the comments: that's exactly what we're talking [here](https://read.cash/@Read.Cash/homepage-and-the-bitcoin-cash-distribution-fund-cc9cd14a#how-do-i-get-paid-from-the-fund). We might include some heurististics about which comments would deserve points and which are not... maybe something else... we'll see how it goes and listen to the feedback. About the opt-out: There's no way to opt-out for now, but you can easily just pledge it back. If it becomes a bigger problem - we might do that (any button, even the one that says "opt out" takes developer time, which we have to spend wisely).

I really like the idea, but controls and oversight need to be instituted to ensure people don't scam the system with multiple accounts, automated comment bots, and other such actions that undermine what legitimate users are doing.
Absolutely. We totally expect people to try to game the fund in all of the possible ways. Currently the majority of the fund is provided by people we know and they are well aware of the fact that some people will try to game the system and it will always be a cat and mouse situation. I mean even AdSense with their PhD pool is filled with fraudulent clicks (is the situation better now? last time I checked there was something like 50% fraudulent clicks). Our interest and the interest of these people is to stimulate people to use Bitcoin Cash (by participating in read.cash), so currently we all agree that even if some people spend some resources to get a slightly bigger piece of cake (by using bots or something) - well... they've done their work and they will still be new Bitcoin Cash users. Having said that, we, of course, are ready to detect such things, protect read.cash from them and discuss every aspect related to the fund. We'll try to make sure that the reward goes to people who worked for it and who deserve it, not to those who can pay for the bigger number of proxies :) I think the nicest part is that the fund goes out from every donor pretty slowly (0.5% per day), so if a person isn't satisfied with how their money is used - it's just one click to cancel the pledge (ok, two clicks :) ). We will also try to balance the transparency of the fund with the need for privacy of people who give and get the donations. I.e. we can't just publish everyone who gets how much and who gives how much (yeah, chain analysis might reveal that anyway, but we should at least try to protect the privacy of these people), at the same time just saying that "yep, your money does a lot of good, give us more money!" isn't going to cut it either. We need some transparency too.
Early on, it probably won't be a major problem. But it could grow over time and spawn resentment by those who are acting properly. Scammers and fraudsters are a pain.
Absolutely agree. However our developer time is severely limited, so we must react to the challenges as they appear. I've personally worked on protecting a huge retail site from bot attacks, fake users, fake reviews, it takes a lot of time and the attacks are ever-evolving, so we'll be looking for them, but we can't spend 1000 man-hours protecting every possible vector now. That doesn't mean that we'll ignore them either. Thanks for your insights!

This is a very good initiative, at least to encourage serious users of read.cash and promote BCH beyond the sky. In my opinion, I strongly support the point system to really know who is working and who is not. Likewise, captcha system must be introduced into read.cash to check the activities of bot users. Hence, donors funds will be used, at least, to a remarkable level of justification.
Frankly we're against captchas. You can buy workers that solve captchas for less than 1 cent per captcha, yet they are often close to impossible to solve for regular users. Maybe we'll change our mind if the problem arises and becomes bigger, but so far it's not a problem.
