After we have added language filters, people started asking us how to have the homepage with multiple languages back.

Well, now you can, just click the cog to set up your language preferences.

This is how it works:

Have fun!

What font do I need to see the actual flags? Currently I have a bunch of weird symbols at the top but the screenshots I've seen show nice looking flags..

We've pushed an update with flags as sprites, so everyone should see them now.

IDK, these are emoji flags, we have them by default. It's hard to tell which font these are coming from. We'll research this.

Does the user have to choose a language when signing up? Because if that's not the case, maybe it is better to enable all languages at first (default).

By default, before user signs up - he sees all languages and can click between them. As soon as he signs up, he will only see English by default with a "cog", reasonably, if he used to click on the language he can read he'd be curios where did it all go and would be naturally inclined to click the cog.

Frankly, there's close to zero activity in other languages now, so I don't think it's worth overthinking now.

Would be nice to have a "select all" and "deselect all" button.

Well, since I have to read all languages - I've had to check all the checkboxes - took about a minute :) I think it's pretty rare use case where somebody wants to really read all languages, unless he's a moderator of read.cash :)

True. It would only be useful for someone OCD like me that likes to see if read.cash is growing in popularity in other languages other than my own.

That's actually surprisingly easy to answer: no :)

Here's the chart of all published articles in most popular languages: https://rcimg.net/images/2ef78782/a2hFskGzzaslyhqK2T6dbUg7xONWPDWUqqahnKZ2.png English dwarfs everything else.

Same chart with English removed: https://rcimg.net/images/2ef78782/T4ZQOeAnEAzpWEcbhERFbFVOaFT8SU8gKtq8jvZg.png

Most of the growth is due to the #mystbusting campaign.

I think it would require some concentrated attention on our part to make it grow in other languages, but I don't think we're there yet. We're too small in English to try to make it in other languages too :) We need to be concentrated.
