What a week. It was very interesting listening to all of the discussions about the funding proposal, but one thing kept bugging us - it was very hard to have a long meaningful discussion in form of threaded comments.

The fact that articles are always moving further down doesn't help.

So, we've decided to add forums to read.cash. Currently, the forum is very basic - just create a topic, add a reply and you can see marks about new messages in the posts you have visited.

We'll add a few features in the coming days - like the ability to upvote posts, reply to particular comments, search, etc.. But, it's pretty functional already.

Be warned: this is an early release, so there is no functionality to edit or delete comments or topics (we'll add it later), no subscriptions ("watch"), no way to reply to a particular message, etc...

There are only three subsections now in the forum: Bitcoin Cash, read.cash and miscellaneous. We'll add new subsections if the need arises. Right now anything that doesn't fit into the first two (which seem to dominate the discussions) can be posted to "Miscellaneous".

If you are ready to test the forum, follow the link: https://read.cash/forum - since it's an early release this is the only place where you can find the link. As soon as we test it a bit and add a few missing pieces, we'll place it more prominently.

Sorting of comments by upvotes when? :)

Aren't they already sorted by upvotes?

See, I gave you 25c and your comment is now at the top. :)

Yeah, there's a bit of influence of time. Older comments require more to get higher.

Is this the same algorithm for posts? It makes the comment sorting seem random or buggy.

It's actually the same as Reddit. It's kind of like this. If a comment/article received $5 a year ago - it's probably less interesting than a comment/article posted one minute ago that got $0 still. Reddit does the same thing and to us it makes sense.

Cool initiative. I might have a suggestion. For most of the internet, we only had threads and comments ordered by the time of submissions. People hurried to post "first" and other low-effort comments which would permanently stay at the top.

The next generation of internet discussion platforms, like digg and reddit, used the vote system and thread system for each comment. A problem I find with reddit is that when a post reaches a certain maturity, the discussion fossilizes in the sense that it's difficult or impossible to reach the new comments and the new comments in a specific thread. Unless a comment is very controversial, given that it's at the top, it's likely going to receive most of the upvotes.

When covering topics that are generating so much discussion (such as the IFP), it would be really great to have more even visibility in comments that are coming later. Could the algorithm for ranking comments favor new comments and then rank them based on vote per measure of time?

Well, note that your comment with $0 upvotes is currently higher than $0.25 by tula_s :) We actually do that (as does Reddit, BTW) - the ranking is a mix of how recent a comment is and how many upvotes did it get.

That's hilarious because it was at the bottom for me when I posted it. Cheers.

Yeah, there's a bit of a bug. When you post a comment - it always goes to the bottom as seen by the author :) Just hit refresh as a temporary workaround.

Nice!

Will I get notified via email of replies to/in my threads?

I posted the first thread in the Bitcoin Cash forum:

What sources of BCH inflows do you see that could maintain merchant adoption?
