She Tested Positive for Covid
I suppose sometimes some things in this world are just unavoidable. Things like Covid. You take all of the necessary precautions—well, most of them. And then you cross your fingers and wait.
How many times in life do we say, with regard to many things, "It's not a matter of if. But when?"
Somewhere in the back of my mind over the past two or so years, going on three, that we have all been dealing with Covid, I was hopeful the "if" would be the more prominent question, knowing all too well that the answer was probably "when."
My overall thoughts about Covid notwithstanding, one thing I have never laid claim to is that it is not a real thing. Of course we all know that it is. I have never denied that.
My thoughts are not an important matter to discuss. We all have our thoughts, ideas, and opinions on the matter, and many of us hold these thoughts, ideas, and opinions with great conviction.
I do as well.
About a week ago I told you that Covid, for me, had hit the closest to home it ever has before. Covid Strikes Close to Home (read.cash). It was Tuesday of last week that a co-worker tested positive, and I watched carefully for any symptoms to be forthcoming. I changed some plans that my wife and I had to go to the casino for New Year's Eve with my elderly mother.
I have had no symptoms so far.
But Friday night is when the wife was feeling like she was coming down with a cold, and it got gradually worse up to today. She slept in the spare bedroom last night by her choice.
When she got up this morning I asked her how she was feeling, and she was feeling lousy.
Both of us were fairly certain it was just a cold. I mean, we have been taking temperatures daily and neither of us have had a fever of any sort. I took her temperature this morning and it was right around 97.5. Well within normal.
Still, I thought that, considering the times and the circumstances, it might be best just to be sure and get a rapid home test if one was available. Walgreens was out, but luckily Walmart had one left which they held for me so long as I'd be there in an hour to pick it up.
I got the test home and the wife took it. It came back positive for Covid-19, and so for all intents and purposes, she has it.
I am not vaccinated, and continue to have no intention of doing it. By now it is probably futile anyway. Besides, my wife is vaccinated and she has it. All I can do now is continue to monitor myself for symptoms and hope that I don't get it as well. Or that if I do get it, I will have a milder case such as what seems to be the situation with the Omicron variant.
I guess it is possible that I do already have it. I have not tested. The kit does contain two tests. So, likely I will take the test sometime tomorrow morning even if I am experiencing no symptoms just as a precaution.
And probably as well for a bit of peace of mind.
Needless to say, both of our employers have been made aware of the situation and neither of us will be returning to work for the time being. I will likely be out of the office for a week. But that depends on how I test, I suppose. My co-worker continues to be off as well, and will likely also not be in for the week.
At the end of the day for whatever all this is worth, the deed is done so to speak, and whether or not it is the right attitude, it's pretty much all that one can do at this point is to just sit it out and hope for the best.
I hope the symptoms are mild for your wife and that she recovers soon. And in your case, who knows, maybe it will be asymptomatic, I hope so. I wish you all the best for this new year.
