No doubt most people would prefer to be with both their mother and father. If their parents are together in raising children, it is better to guide, protect, support and give them a good life.
But now homes with mothers and fathers can only be counted on our fingers. It is estimated that 50 percent of children in the United States and some countries experience living with only one parent before they turn 18 years old.
Even though it is common for single-parent families, some young people in this situation are still embarrassed. Others seem to be choked and bothered by the amount of problems they have.
But what are the challenges of having a single parent and what should you do as a child in this situation?
Here are some suggestions and advised...
Resist negative emotions.
First, do not be influenced by other people's negative comments. They may say that you are not raised well because your a child of a solo parent. It is normal for you to be hurt by the words 'separation or death' but you know yourself and especially your parent. So you should not be too affected by the words that will cause you resentment.
Don't be sulk and depress.
It is only natural that you feel sad and lonely when one of your parents separates or dies. But you have to accept it. It is better to think of learning from life as a child. Rather than sulk like other young people does.As long as you keep doing right and helping with your parents you can also be happy.
Help your parent.
Think of things that will help your single parent. Ease the responsibility they carry and be a responsible child to them. Take the initiative in doing household chores and helping with whatever your parents need. Also learn to save on expenses and budgeting money, so that it would be enough for every day especially if only your single parent is working.
Show that you love your parents and value them.
Aside from helping your parent, show that you value their sacrifice and effort. Keep your parent's feelings and moods intact. If you are in a single parent situation, you can also develop your good qualities. and consider the welfare of others.
Perhaps other youths sometimes think that it would be better if both their parents are there. But you will also learn to do your best to be happy and successful in life despite this situation.
"Remember, you can be happy no matter what your situation is. What matters is your attitude, positive outlook and efforts to improve your life."
