It is a Sunday. Finally a rest from business deals and everything related to making money. Fred has been looking forward to this time of relaxation. He has been rushing his morning coffee lately. Even spilled some on his work clothes. He needed to quickly change and that caused him serious amount of time. He needed to be out the door and Celso, his trusted driver, should be there already as well. Celso cannot park too long in front of their doorstep as the drive way is a shared strip for tenants living in the same cramped compound. So it should be a quick pick and go. Else, Celso would need to go around the block again. And if that happens and Celso gets caught in the block by 7:15am, he would no be able to pick up Celso in time. They will be late. That happened Monday and yes, they got late.
He cannot scream at Celso. It was not his fault that the coffee spilled on his work clothes. It is just that, well, crap happens. He decided to be careful next day and before putting on his work clothes, he decided to pour the coffee into his tumbler first. He was successful at that. They were away from the area and on the freeway in no time and he was able to attend one project's business deal. He was able to close the deal and they are taking the project for company A&H then. It was a two-year contract and something that the company needs. He was sure his boss will be delighted to know this and will give him a pat in the back finally. But that did not happen because he has other engagements lined up. His boss, Mr.Grump, was happy he got the deal for A&H but Grump, currently focusing more on closing deals than his subordinates' job-well-dones, placed three thick folders of business proposals on his desk.
He got a visit from Mr. Grump that time. He was going to write an email when the door of his office opened and it was Mr. Grump.
"Hey boss! " Fred starts. "We got A&H!" He was very happy but contained.
Grump goes, "That's good. Do the same with these.. " *thump lands the folders on the desk.
Grump turns for the door, opens it and added, "Oh I need the figures from A&H. Stat! Those three needs to be closed within the week. Let me know if you can't do it."
Grump closes the door behind him.
Fred stares at the pile of folders on his desk. And he started making actions of a magician wanting to make them disappear. That was Tuesday.
With three more clients to pursue and to convince that they are the best company to trust, he faces the mirror, gives himself a positive praise to himself, walks out of his room, grabs his tumbler, grabs the sandwich manang Flor prepared for him and zoomed out of the house, to the car and to the office once again.
He got the deals alright! Yey, Fred! But up until Friday night, he was finalizing the reports his boss will need to present to the board about the projects they closed for the week. He did feel good but he sure did feel like a robot, too. And by now he is convinced he is a magician.
Before the story continues, do let me present to you my fantabolous sponsors
They have stories and poetries to share .. do check them out!
Upon finishing his report, he sat back on his swivel chair and looked up the ceiling making mental calculations of when he would finally retire and when he would want to just sit back and relax. Buy a yacht or something. Not that what he's gonna get from the company can buy him a yacht. But he is just playing with his thoughts.
His phone buzzed and a message popped from his Golf Buddies group chat comprising of his colleagues from other department. Ah, golf! He was looking forward to it on Sunday. It is their usual weekend unwind thing. Nothing more relaxing than hitting that ball on the tee and chasing it down the green after everyone have shot theirs to fetch. Of course, that's not how golf works. Though it may be similar to such. But he learned to love it anyway. It is challenging and it is relaxing. The message was from Eric telling them the details of their reservations.
Satisfied with his work done for the week, he got up, packed up his briefcase, shut down is machine and went home. That was Friday.
He decided to sleep in through Saturday. Except for the trip down the dry cleaners, a few groceries, lined up for a haircut but then decided the line was too long so he decided to go home and relax with binge watching a TV series. That was Saturday.
Next day, he was preparing for the golf day at 5:30am. He was up early, preparing, checking his set, checking his gloves, making sure his new golf shoes are clean and then there was a message in their group chat that the golf day will be cancelled because of a confusion with the reservation. They cannot get a slot because it turns out, the club is full for a tournament of some other big company. Bummer!
Because he is already up, mood crushed he decided to take a walk to the nearby coffee shop to ease his mood. He changed clothes, picked up his comfort cowboy hat, picked a flipflop and started walking. In no more than twenty minutes, he has in his hands, his coffee and a newspaper he grabbed from the coffee shop's newspaper stand. He decided al fresco is good since the day is still not too hot. Besides, inside the coffee shop, it's freezing.
He picked a spot. Placed his brewed coffee on the table, pulled the chair, shook his flipflops off, pulled the chair in front closer with his foot, propped both legs on the extra chair, opened the news paper and shook it to open without folding back and he starts to drown in on the stories of the entertainment section.
This is Sunday. He should be out with his buddies celebrating small successes. Well he made magic so it was huge success for him. Yet here he is starting Sunday morning with a cancelled celebration over golf and with his picture being captured by a kid who was failing so much in taking it "discreetly".
Good evening readitizens! How is everyone doing? Meet Fred. Seriously, not his name but I wouldn't know. He happens to be in the picture of interest with my challenge of "pick a picture, tell a story" .
Happy rest of Sunday dear friends!!
