Jane fell in love with Tobby the very first day she set her eyes on him at the admissions office. She came to the university in company of her mother to complete her admission procedures. It was such a tedious process but with mother by her side, she was accorded some quick attention, being a senator of the federal republic. From a distance, Jane had stared at the young Tobby, he first caught her checking him out from head to toe but felt nothing until the gazing became continuous. As a shy guy, he walked away from the scene. Jane felt some butterflies in her stomach as Tobby walked away.
Damn, this boy is so cool and comported, he is my spec.- In Jane's thought
After the whole procedure of admissions was completed, they moved to the porter's office to book an executive self-contained hostel for Jane. The hostel had two wings, one for boys and the other for girls but all in the same fenced compound.
When school resumed fully the following week, Tobby being in the Theatre Department was having a rehearsal in the quadrangle of the school for all 100 level students in preparation for a departmental presentation. Usually, students from other departments would come to feed their eyes as the rehearsals continues through the evening. Jane walked in with her friend, Kenny. She is such a dance freak that she began to tutor Jane on the latest moves of dance in town.
The two friends already knew that Toby is a shy guy. He doesn't have the
guts to tell a babe what he feels and might not come for Jane. So, the duo made a plot to match-make Jane with Tobby.
The engineering department is for serious-minded students. Professor Nick hammered in the lecture hall.
If you are not ready for the challenge, you had better reconsider your opinion of being here. He continued
It appeared that the current 100 level students are out for parties having failed their first-class test en mass.
Who cares, Jane thought. She was never in class as thoughts of Tobby had occupied everything she does.
He should just hold me.
Maybe a kiss from him will cure me.
Jane muttered to Kenny always.
On the evening of the Theatre Art student's presentation at the amphitheater, Jane and Kenny had already bought tickets hoping to catch a close glance of Tobby and to get his attention when the dance floor is opened. Jane wasn't herself as Tobby was nowhere to be found. When the cast for the drama (Our Husband Has Gone Made Again) was released, his name wasn't there. Jane felt so devastated that her love wouldn't be part of the whole show.
The Jambites night was so interesting after the drama presentation. Famous music arts like Azadus, Tony Tetuila, Idris Abdulkareem, and Oli Maintain took the stage one by each. The guys had fun. It was their first experience of such a social event at the university as undergraduates, it was so exhilarating. Jane was so moody because of the absence of Toby. All her plans turned out futile.
One of the features of the night was a dance crew presentation.
Lights out. Then a spark and lightning lined up the dancers to the stage. And right there............. To by leading the crew.
For the first time this night, Jane stood up watching how perfectly Tobby had dealt with the dance steps. He was so adorable.
I am not going to miss this opportunity. Jane promised herself.
When the dance floor was opened, Jane rushed backstage to look for Tobby, there he is, as calm as ever.
Hi, said Jane.
Hello, Tobby replied.
I am Jane. And all this while I have been in search of you but you were nowhere to be found.
Wow. I am Tobby. It's nice meeting you. I have to go now. Can we possibly talk later? He replied.
Jane held his hand and led him outside the amphitheater. They both walked slowly through the orchard as Jane slowly told him how she had felt from the first day she set her eyes on him. She was near tears as she narrated how she felt to Tobby.
Now, emotions had started rising between them. To by was to numb to say much. He just held her as she lowered her lips into his. She isn't going to let go. He had the softest lips ever........
Like this should never end.
Under the soft lighted orchard, they sat talking through the night.
Jane, Tobby started. That day at the admissions office, I caught the same feeling but I was too timid to walk up to you. I haven't asked a last out before so I shyly walked away so I don't get into an embarrassment that I won't forgive myself.
That night, Tobby requested that they went back into the hall for a dance but Jane wanted to be cuddled. She opined that they go to his hostel.
Your dance can wait for another day. For now, come and maker feel like a woman.
They walked away, hand in hand.
A nice romantic story!
