No Peace For The Wicked

Do you take this woman as your lawful wedded wife, to hold and have, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, till death do you part?

The clergy asked. George responded:

Yes, I do.

As the clergy ask the bride the same question, she answered in the affirmative and said:

Does anyone here know why this man and woman should not be joined together in holy matrimony, let him speak now or forever remain silent.

Everywhere went sudden silent until a fierce looking woman, mentally derailed with a dry wood in her hand, shouted into the church auditorium:

Death! Death!! That's your reward.

She started chasing the groom.. The church went agog as the pursuit continued. George ran for his life from the church premises into the adjoining street until no one was in sight.

Toyin started to wail. What on earth is happening. It's her wedding day and a mad woman chased her would-be husband away from the church.

Now the church proceedings had to stop because the groom has gone into thin air.

Days have passed since George had gone out of sight and Toyin have simply gone gaga. It was an embarrassment of a lifetime.

The weekend wedding magazine that is usually published to showcase the amazing wedding events in town also published the chase that ought to have been a glamorous wedding engagement.

Mrs Abbey, Toyin's mother, came out of her room to ask Toyin to stop wailing. She wasn't disappointed that something like this could have happened.

You haven't anything yet. Despite the prophecy, you were adamant at getting married to George, now look what you have caused yourself. Your weeping has just begin.

Toyin kept weeping, she wept the more when her mom had finished remembering her of the happening before the supposed wedding.

Mrs Abbey had visited her friend Mrs Ndidi on a very hot afternoon. She had a guest whom she was seeing off as Mrs Abbey entered her compound. The man whom she later knew to be Prophet Adams told her that if she had any child who was planning to get married, they should postpone the wedding by two years.

It was like pouring water on stone. Mrs Abbey found it very difficult to accept that prophecy. She told her friend Mrs Ndidi that the prophet must be one of those many hungry prophet that goes around looking for what they would eat.

Mrs Ndidi rebuked her and asked her to obey, else she may regret her actions if they went ahead with the wedding.

Ordinarily, they have sold the aso-ebi for the wedding and she had come to Mrs Ndidi to give her the headwear to match the outfit. But at the utterance of the prophets and the scolding of Mrs Ndidi, she withdrew her intention and went home to inform her daughter Toyin.

An impatient Toyin did not listen to the prophecy more than once, she rebuffed it and said it can not work. The wedding must be held.

The repercussion is what we have seen in the foregoing paragraphs.

The race to solve this problem started. Mrs Abbey started running from one divine to the other. All her effort did not yield any result. She did not find it.

She decided to visit the prophet that made the prophecy. It was a huge decision but she had to take it so that a lasting solution  would be made on the matter.

Prophet Adams told her to come along with the groom else the problem cannot be solved. Then a search party to find George was put together. After three solid days of combing the town for George's whereabouts, they found him in the house of his best man.

George and Mrs Abbey arrived at the prophet's crib, he began to pray in some strange language, immediately, the mad woman cry from outside was heard.

That's her again. She is somewhere around.

George said, standing from where he was sitting.

The prophets stood and went outside. They found the mad woman who was later recognised to be George's former wife.

She had gone mad after George allegedly used her for money ritual purposes.

It was there the prophet told him that he has to marry the mad woman or he will never find a woman that would live with him for the rest of his life and that he would have no peace.

George actually brought the whole problem upon himself. You can't do money ritual and think it won't have repercussions! Now, the repercussion is that the former wife who is now mad chases him up and down. He should just marry the mad woman like that since he caused everything. Toyin will surely have a good husband to marry, and at this time she needs to be patient.

You can't expect peace and happiness if you have ruined someone else's life.

There is indeed no peace for the wicked, we have a personal police called our conscience and people that derive joy from making people sad are really going to pay for it

There’s truly no Peace for the wicked. George should know that if the woman doesn’t have peace he won’t have peace. He shouldn’t make somebody cry to make him self happy.
