Back To The Dead

Dennis joined the military academy when his mates went to the conventional university. It had been his ambition from childhood to be in the military, aside from that he liked how they dress smartly, their appearance commands some respect, so Dennis decided to become a military.

Training as a military, first begins by succeeding at the boot camp and making a good representation of oneself in academics which Dennis satisfied before he and other successful academies were enlisted.

After four years in the military academy, Dennis graduated and was sent to the force headquarters where he was the assistant intelligence officer.

Earlier

Before he was sent to the force headquarters, he had traveled home to rest after graduation from the academy for three months where he met Biola, a beautiful nurse. Theirs was love at first sight. Within the three months, both of them have gotten so much in love that Dennis parents and Biola's parents knew they are meant for each other.

They made promises and decided to take their line to the next level. He had made a decision to come back for her as soon as he has settled at his new place.

Peace Keeping Mission

While Dennis was settling down to his new posting, the army starting conscripting men for peace keeping mission in Sudan. As a second lieutenant, Dennis was part of those who were listed for the mission. Before leaving to Sudan, he returned home to bid his family farewell.

Biola did not bargain for such a love life but had no option. The night before Dennis went back to join the other soldiers, Biola slept over at his end. It was a night to remember as both lovers made sweet love all night.

After a month that the peacekeeping mission was stationed at the valley where the rebels in Sudan launched reprisal attacks against the civilian citizens, they attacked the army and killed many. Dennis could not be found as a survivor from the attack, hence the report came home that he was dead.

Everyone was devastated at the news of his death. He has a promising career in the military. His father was more devastated.

When Biola heard of the news of his death, she wept her eyes off. She only discovered that she was pregnant after Dennis left for the mission.

Not long after, Dennis' father died. He was buried. His death must have come from the shock that he lost his only son in a foreign land. While arrangement to pay Dennis' gratuity was when his father died.

Whereas, on the night of the attack against the soldiers, a local old hunter who found Dennis gasping for breath rescued. He carried him to his underground hut where he resuscitated him.

Back At Home

Viola could not bear the shame of having a baby out of wedlock. Her mother ad iced her to give in to Chief Okoh who had always wanted her to his wife.

The dowry was paid in full and Biola resumed her wifely duties, carrying the pregnancy of another man and making it appear like is was for Chief Okoh.

The old hunter having discovered that Dennis had recuperated, took him through a safe path to the capital of Sudan where he was jetted back home.

The flight to Lagos was a long one but when he landed at the airport, he went to show himself at the force headquarters where he was given time to time to have some time of rest with his family.

He reached home in the company of one orderly who served as his man in arm. Dennis called out to his father:

Father, your son is back. Where are you? Your son is back.

No one came out except neighbours who upon hearing Dennis' came to see who really it was that calls on top of his voice.

They took to their heels like they have seen a ghost.

Dennis could not believe it.

Right there on the wall was a poster of his obituary and by it side is the poster of his late father. It was a disheartening moment for the young man.

Straight he went to Biola's house and found his mother who had to first run back into the house.

Mama, please come. Its me, Dennis. I am alive, I am not dead.

From inside her house, she told him to go back to the dead.

This was how everything that gave Dennis joy was lost while he was on a national assignment.

His father is gone. The only one that could have given him a relief too had done to marry another man.

Dennis returned to his base and started life all over again.
