When we plan a vacation, what do we dream about? About the sea, about clean, endless and possibly deserted beaches.
And most people go abroad, forgetting or not knowing that in Ukraine there is such an opportunity. In this article I will tell you about a paradise place - Dzharylgach island.
Dzharylgach is an island in the Kherson region, unique in many ways:
Firstly, it is the only uninhabited island in Europe.
Secondly, the island is washed by the usual waters of the Black Sea, but in this area the shade of the water is bright azure, like in the Maldives.
Thirdly, the record-breaking island is the largest not only in Ukraine, but also in the entire Black Sea: its area is 56 square kilometers, its length is 42 kilometers. Dzharylgach, together with a part of the adjacent water area, is territorially part of the National Natural Park of the same name.
Geographical features of the island
The island is located in the Karkinitskaya inflow, separated from the coast by the Dzharylgach inflow, connected to the mainland by a long spit of sand, which periodically dries up.
The climate in this steppe region is moderately continental, but on the island itself it is softer and fresher - this is thanks to the sea surrounding Dzharylgach. In terms of the duration of sunshine, the indicators are one of the most impressive in the entire country: 2300 hours of sunshine per year. The hot summer season holds positions for 5 months, the transition to the autumn-winter season is accompanied by high-speed winds and small storms. The number of frost-free days per year is as much as 210!
The nearest neighboring resorts are the village of Lazurnoe (just 2 km from the spit), as well as the city of Skadovsk on the opposite bank (7 kilometers from Dzharylgach).
What to see
1. The visiting card of the island is a lighthouse with a century of history. It was designed and installed by his student Eiffel (the very author of the Eiffel Tower) in 1902. Above, a panoramic view of the sea and a sandy spit with olive thickets opens up.
2. The number of estuaries on the island exceeds two hundred. Salt lakes and therapeutic muds are known throughout the country and abroad. lodine and bromine are concentrated in healing water and are in the air. Therefore, being here is not only visually pleasant, but also useful.
3. The island is uninhabited, but it is located just on the route of migratory birds: swans, geese, ducks. Migratory flocks are often found here, and even pelicans have been observed. In the most active winter seasons, there are up to 150 thousand birds on the island.
4. The marine world in the coastal waters amazes with the diversity and rarity of representatives: crabs, stone and grass shrimps, dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, porpoises, sterlet and stellate sturgeon are found here. Fans of fishing, which, by the way, is allowed on the island, will be delighted with catching gobies, pelengas, flounder, shrimp, mussels, and crabs.
5. Dzharylgach is a favorite place for photographers and people who love wildlife.
A tent city has been created on the island for tourists, but it is more convenient to come to the island with an excursion, while being in Lazurnoe on vacation - here the infrastructure is much better adapted to the needs of vacationers.
The respectful attitude of the locals to the natural Black Sea miracle gives hope that the island will delight for a long time with a wild, untouched atmosphere. Rare plants and animals from the Red Book have found their home here, and you still have the opportunity to see them with your own eyes!
