Throughout Portugal, the traveler will constantly come across signs with the inscription Miradouro. In literal translation it means "golden view", and in literary translation it means an observation deck.
The whole of Lisbon can be called a huge observation deck, since the city is built on the hills. But, of course, Lisbon also has very special viewing platforms, which I will tell you about today.
1. Observation deck on the Vasco da Gama tower
Vasco da Gama Tower is the tallest building in Lisbon, it is located in the Park of Nations. The total height is 145 meters. The observation deck is located at an altitude of 120 meters. This tower offers stunning views of the old city and new districts of Lisbon.
2. Viewpoint of the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
This observation deck is the best in Lisbon according to travelers. The site can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, but not everyone can reach it.
A small number of tourists and a stunning view make the site very attractive for connoisseurs of the city. An excellent view opens up to the mouth of the Tagus River and the Mar da Palha Bay, to the Castle of St. George, Martim Monij Square, Monsanto Forest Park, Bairro Alto and partly Baixu areas.
3. Observation deck of the Basilica da Estrela
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located west of the tourist center of Lisbon. And the main feature of the observation deck is that it is located in the dome of the church.
From here a breathtaking view of the garden da Estrela and the city as a whole opens up.
4. Castle of St. George
This observation deck is located in the historic center of the city. The castle itself was built in the 9th - 14th centuries on the site of an ancient fortification. It itself is quite an attractive attraction. And the view that opens from its wide walls is admired by many travelers: the old city center, and the Tagus River, and the bridge on April 25 .
5. Viewpoint of San Pedro de Alcantara
The observation deck is at the top stop of the Gloria funicular in the gardens of San Pedro de Alcantara. It overlooks the western part of Lisbon: the Castle of St. George, the Baixa area and the Tagus River.
There are benches on the observation deck so that everyone can calmly and comfortably admire the beauty of the city.
The most romantic time to visit the observation decks is sunset. The sun's rays illuminate everything around with a soft golden light, the already beautiful landscapes become magical.
Most viewpoints have cafes. Therefore, you can admire the views with a cup of aromatic coffee or a glass of delicious Portuguese wine.
