"The ocean is a mystery that no human has ever fully discovered. To some, the ocean may seem like a fairytale because of how beautiful it is. All they ever want to do is swim in it and explore its depths. But there are also those who fear the ocean, because they don't understand it and all the things that could potentially be hiding in its dark waters." - Oikawa.
Josee, The Tiger, and The Fish.
Josee loved the ocean more than anything, and she was so excited when she woke up one day and saw that her legs had turned into a tail. She could finally swim with the dolphins and explore the deep sea!
She explored the sea and was amazed at the number of creatures she saw there. She had never seen anything like it before in her life. The fish, the coral, and the plants were all so beautiful. She swam around for hours, taking everything in.
Eventually, she found herself getting tired. She started to make her way back to shore, but she heard a scary noise behind her before getting very far.
Josee heard a roar behind her; it was a tiger that appeared. She was terrified and tried to run, but she could not run because of her tail. The tiger began to stalk her, slowly moving closer and closer until it attempted to pounce.....
"AHHHHHHHHAHH.... - Josee Shouts.
Josee looked around but didn't see the tiger; she wondered where it had gone until she realized it was all a dream.
"There was no Tiger, she was no mermaid, and she was a paraplegic (disabled), she had been disabled since she was five years old, and she had never seen the ocean before, and she knew she never will.
Josee had been living with her parents for twenty-four(24) years, and even though she feared that she would live with them for the rest of her life, she knew that was the only way she would survive.
Ever since she was little, her parents had told her she would never make it if she had left their side, "If you ever leave the house, you will end up dying, Josee," she kept hearing these words every day for the last 24 years.
Josee always wondered what the outside world looked like, she always tried to look outside the window, but her parents made sure the walls were high, which made it impossible for anyone to see inside, meaning she couldn't see outside.
"I've only seen the world outside through the television. It seems so beautiful and peaceful, but I'm not sure if that's true or if it's just an illusion created by the media. I wonder what it would be like to experience that world for myself. Maybe one day I'll be able to find out," - Josee says to herself.
She knew she would never see the outside world, but she hoped that someone would save her from her never-ending cycle of torment and boredom one day.
She spent her days drawing the ocean and sea creatures, and she had loved the ocean ever since she saw it on the Tv when she was five. It was so vast and beautiful that she dreamt of being able to swim in its depths one day.
"Well, I know I would never be able to swim in the ocean, seeing that I can't even walk by myself, hahaha," Josee says.
Even though she was laughing, she felt pain in her heart; Josee didn't ask to be born with a disability; why couldn't she be born normal like the girls she saw on the Tv? It seemed so unfair that she was stuck living this way, unable to make friends or fall in love.
"I wish I were never born; I don't want to stay here anymore! - Josee.
As Josee talked, her mother came in, it was time for her bath, and she needed help to get to the bathroom.
The closest thing she had to the "Ocean" was the "Bath" because she could feel the water on her face, and every time she attempted to swim, it only reminded her that she was disabled.
Sometimes, when it rained hard enough, she would sit by the window and listen to the rainfall on top of the roof. It sounded so much like waves crashing against a shoreline.
After finishing her bath, she crawled to the living room to have breakfast.
Her mother had told her about a new "caretaker" that would come help her because they would soon be traveling, but she didn't pay attention to her because she had decided to kill herself after breakfast.
Josee was tired of living like a burden to her parents; she loved the idea of reincarnation because she believed if she died, she could come back as a new person, and maybe this time, her life would be normal.
After she was done with breakfast, Josee decided to get in her wheelchair and go outside for the first time, she decided that she would want to see the outside world before she died, or maybe she would even end up dying there.
When her mother wasn't looking, she opened the door and rode her wheelchair faster than she had ever done.
The sunlight blinded her, but when she opened her eyes, she was amazed by how beautiful the world looked; the clouds, the gentle breeze, everything seemed perfect.
She continued riding her wheelchair fast, but she had made a mistake. She had never come out of the house before, and she didn't know it went downhill. She quickly realized her mistake as the chair started picking up speed. She tried to apply the brakes, but they were already locked tight. The chair careened down the hill at an alarming rate, and a concrete wall was waiting for her in front.
She knew if she hit the wall with that speed, she would be a dead person, and she was scared, "Isn't this what I wanted? Why am I afraid? Why am I crying?
She prepared herself for her death, but something happened; the wheelchair had hit a rock, which launched her away; as she was about to hit the wall, she heard a loud voice "Hey!!!"
She fell on something, not knowing if she was dead or not; Josee opened her eyes, she looked around to see if she had become a ghost, but she was still alive, she wondered what had happened, she heard a voice below her "Ahhh, that was close, I thought I wouldn't catch you, are you alright."
She was shocked to see a young man under her; he was smiling at her, thanking the heavens that she was safe, Josee couldn't understand why the world didn't let her die, but she was glad she didn't.
She begins to cry, and the young man tries to calm her down!
"At that moment, she didn't know this was the beginning of a story that would change her life forever" - Oikawa.
