Short-staffed
July 31, 2022
A colleague of mine sent his resignation letter yesterday. If approved, it would be effective immediately today. That's because he has greener pastures that await him abroad. The boss knew about her application abroad. She encourages every one of us to try different opportunities as the line of work we have today is only contractual. She values her employees but she would also let go if it means we will have better opportunities.
However, this colleague of mine made it known to everybody that he's leaving which is a red flag because it has only been a month since we signed a contract for six more months. The boss would appreciate it if he remained discrete, work with his clearance and leave without telling other people from the office. But no, he didn't do anything of that.
His service is very in demand. When it was supposed to be his last day at work, a lot of people look for him to make him do something. That's maybe the time he said to everyone that he's leaving.
Now, other heads of the offices in the workplace suspect that there must be something with my boss as we are now short with two staff. Last month, another colleague didn't have his contract renewed for some valid reasons.
Now, the boss is not in a good mood as there are more bug events in the coming months and yet we are short-staffed. She's anxious if she would ever find another employee who's skilful and dependable as the one who's leaving. She's hoping that she won't bump into someone who's like the other colleague who didn't have the chance to have his contract renewed.
The boss is good. She nags at times but that's normal with the pressure and stress she got at work. Above everything, she takes care of us and defends us every time. The office is busy. Every day it seems like a war room of having everything done in a minute. Sometimes, we just find ourselves having loud voices as we hear each other's opinions. The office just wanted to give the best of the best.
I don't what would happen tomorrow. Will my colleague be granted his request? Will he leave without leaving bad feelings to the boss? I just hope that it would be a win-win situation. I pray he gets to achieve the dreams he has. I pray that the office gets to hire good employees too.
