This is the title of one of Lang Leav's book. The book is a compilation of poems, short and long that tackles about how love looks pretty on people.
'Love makes the world go round', they say. From whichever side we may choose to view, love really looks good on you.
Even for the people who took a long time to find love, still love looks pretty on them.
I've had a college instructor who is a total package. Smart, eloquent, confident, well-off, accomplished at the age of 25. She's an only child and she gets what she wants. Expensive lappy, a smart watch even a brand new car. She names it,then she'll have it. Of course, she doesn't settle for less, she wants the best. She wants to be the best and so today, she is currently pursuing her Doctor's degree.
But eventhough she has all the things, there is one thing she is craving. Really, a person couldn't have it all. God may sprinkle talents to each and everyone of us but no person hoards everything. You will always feel there is lacking.
Our teacher longs for a lover. She may not directly tells us that but we can see. I can see the look in her eyes when she learned our classmate has a boyfriend. Maybe in her mind, my students have lovers but why can't I have one.
I can see it from the way she recites Pablo Neruda's If You Forget Me.
I can see it from how she puts emphasis in the lines:
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
Maybe, she had someone. She had a lover that somehow got tired waiting, as she was still busy achieving her dreams. Maybe, she had a lover but her parents didn't approve of him. Maybe just maybe.
I can see it from the way she replies to her friends having the love that they need.
Envy and confusion is in her eyes. She is a total package but where are the guys?
She is Psyche, adored by many but never loved.
Sure, people around her would love to arrange a date for her, urge her to go out and meet new friends. But, she is busy. Her time is not even enough juggling between teaching and studying. Or maybe, she'e just waiting for someone to come back. Men are used to love her from a far. But, they maintain distance because they're afraid they wouldn't meet her standards. She is rare. Hard to find, like a diamond. She doesn't need a man just to complete herself. Maybe that's why she's still single. She doesn't need a man. She wants a man. A man should be a want rather than a need. Maybe that's why she doesn't just pick some flower from the garden, she is waiting for a vine to climb up on her high walls.
That was two years ago.....
I just recently saw her photo with a man. 'Finally!' I said. She is complete. She was complete even then. But now, she glows. Yes, that is the correct word. Glow. Not complete. We are complete even without a lover but a lover makes us glow. Her smile is more meaningful, sweeter even. Her eyes sparkles like she doesn't have poor eyesight. Her aura, is different. Cheerful, nice and alive. Love looks pretty on her.
Oh how I miss that glow. Hahahaha. I mentioned it in my past article that there was really a different kind of aura when you are in love. But I am happy for your college instructor. I hope I can also meet that someone who can bring back that glow in me. Ayyiiiiie. Hahaha. ๐
