January 6, 2022

Since supertyphoon Odette hit the country, help has been overflowing. The government have been trying to aid families who have lost their houses and livelihood. They were trying to be fair in giving assistance. But due to limited resources, many people were left downhearted because they were not given or else they were given less than what is expected.

Glad that private sectors are also trying to reach as much people as they can. May it be from private companies, people working from abroad, crazy rich people, TV personalities, TV Networks, running politicians and people who donate to churches.

The government has been kind enough to give a maximum of P5,000 ($100) every family depending on its family members. Kilos of rice were distributed to families too, may they be rich or poor, jobless or not. People may complain about its odor and color, but just a reminder, we didn't pay for it directly. Yes, it may came from our taxes but let us just make do of what is given. I'm sure mothers can do magic just for the rice to be consumed and not be wasted.

We may not be beneficiaries of help from TV Networks and personalities but we are thankful that some barangays along the road or the national highway have been blessed by their help. The blessings still were not wasted for they were given to people who are in dire need.

An advantage of supertyphoon Odette is that it happened when election is approaching, it is a great time for politicians to be made known to people. During this time, we can see who's heart is sincere, who can extend help and who can come and ask us of our condition. Glad that there are really politicians who have extended help. Some running politicians are more generous and compassionate than those who are sitting in the office.

Relatives from abroad were extra helpful too these days. Maybe their hearts were touched as what they saw from the news. My uncle from abroad who didn't give my grandma allotment from the time he got a job, has extended help too. We were surprised because he has a heart of stone and yet his box of help came two weeks after the typhoon. Truly, blood is thickier than water. No matter how stone a heart is, it would really feel for the people he loves when they go through difficult time.

Lastly, the people from church has been very helpful since day one too. There is a missionary who resides in the city and he has his ministry there. He served as avenue for generous people from abroad to extend their help too. Because of him, help is overflowing. He became a channel of blessing not only to his fellow pastors and churchmates but even to the unbelievers as well. The help they got were given to people regardless of religion and race.

We were one of the many familes who are extra thankful and are feeling blessed. One of our churchmate said in her testimony that she is thankful for the typhoon because if not for supertyphoon Odette, she won't receive goods and cash assistance.

Help really goes a long long way. It won't only ease hunger and fill the stomach, it also eases worry and makes a heart joyful that it never stops jumping in thanksgiving.

In other areas, they were given P20, 000 ($400) as cash assistance too. Imagine how big the help is and how it can affect to the positive disposition to the receiver.

* This post is not for the purpose of bragging how much of help we got. This is to thank the people who have extended help. This is "counting the blessings and naming them one by one". This is also a reminder for everyone to thank every blessings received no matter how big or small. Now is not the time to complain. It is the year of gratitude. We should start cultivating a heart of gratitude because gratitude reciprocates.

Thank you for reading friends. Until next time.

If people understood that gratitude is part of receiving blessings, how wonderful it would be! Because blessings are given to people who have a grateful heart.

Filipino is known for being that kind-hearted people around the world, the thing that I also admired is that Filipinos could stand out even how many downfalls or landslide the problem could do, the spirit of Bayanihan still presents around.

gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.
