Growing up, I was taught that gambling is a vice and not a good activity to do. I have seen people in my barangay playing Bingo and betting some coins. They are busy playing it all day and their kids are left unfeed at home. There is an instance when a mother was so immersed in playing Bingo with her neighbors, when she got home her baby is dead because it's neck was somehow fit inside the hole of the hammock. Rumors has it that that baby might have woken up from sleep because of hunger, he might have been moving and looking for her mom but unfortunately, after endless crying and moving, his head fit to the whole and it caused his death.
Participating in raffle is also a kind of gamble. My mother is fond in participating in one of the raffle promos of one of the department stores here. She has been joining ever since the world beganπ and she haven't won even a consolacion prize. I kept on making fun of her for always participating but she just smiles. Well, it is harmless for she doesn't invest money. She would just hand in her grocery receipts to one of the saleslady. I pray she wins the next time.
Anyway, I have read about @meitanteikudo 's new writing prompt which is about gambling. I thought of joining and these are his questions:
Do you know how to gamble? What games do you know how to play?
I don't know how to gamble. I haven't played games that requires investing money. But according to @meitanteikudo 's article, there are things we do in life that are considered gamble. We are not just aware of it. So, technically, I have been gambling all my life, I am just unaware of it.
When was the last time you gamble?
I can't remember the last time I gamble but I remember riding on a bike as a kid without the proper skill of riding a bike and without proper gear. That, for me, is a gamble. I risk my life for fun and enjoyment. I ended up breaking my elbow. Eleven days in the hospital with my arm hung up so it won't be moved after it has undergone minor operation. Still, it is not fully recovered. The doctor might have gone wrong with massaging and cementing it because as of today it doesn't look like a normal arm and elbow still. I lost. I lost my normal physical attribute to fun and enjoyment. No one is to be blamed but myself. Of course, I waste no time blaming myself because I once want it. I wanted to ride on a bike at the dike. So, I only charged it to experience. That was my one major gambling experience.
What was your greatest victory so far?
The plans being completed and the dreams achieved are the greatest victory because everyday in our lives, we work because we are fueled by our dreams. By working, we gamble. We risk our lives everyday. We wore out our body, we stress our minds not knowing that we work for will be truly achieved in the future. What if we die along the process? What will happen to our bets and dreams? They will also be left hanging. Lucky to those who has their dreams countinued by their friends, family members or children.
In love, we gamble too. We spend time and effort. We invest feelings everyday. These feelings grow day by day until its roots will run deep that we can no longer reach it. We wouldn't know if our lovers feel the same way for us. We don't know if they invest the same amount of feelings, time and effort for us. We just go on. At times, we try to find out if they feel the same way but regardless of what answer we get, we tend to love more anyway. Give our all, even. It is a gamble. Few are winners but there are many who are left hopeless and losers. They carry with them the fear of gambling again.
Do you know anyone who's a gambling addict? How are they now?
My mother's brother is a gambling addict. Whenever he gets his hands on money, it would be itchy and the only way to remove the itch is to gamble. He would gamble using his hard-earned money until he got addicted and used his parents money. When both of their parents died, he sold all of his parents' properties without telling his siblings. He used the money to fund his gambling addiction.
Have you ever been to a casino? How was your experience?
I have never been to a casino and I doubt if I could be there for the rest of my life. For some people, it is fun and it is the place to be but I think I wouldn't be able to thrive in such place because I'm no competetive soul. I'm shy and I'm not a people-person.
If you will play a game in a life and death situation, what game would you like it to be?
Squid Game might be a good example of this but I wouldn't wish to be a participant of that game although it provides an impressive amount of money as a prize. I am faint hearted and I think I would be a loser just by crying over a relationship that turns into betrayal.
Gambling might not be bad at all for it works for other people. There are those who are born lucky. Well, anyone can go and try their luck. It is just a matter of guts. It depends on how much you can afford to lose. At the end of the day, it is your risk tolerance that matters.
That is all for today. Until then!

May mga namiss pala akong articles. Hehe. π
Anyway, guilty of joining raffles. Andoon kasi yung hope na mananalo lalo kung wala naman ilalabas ng pera. Sa groceries yan madalas. Hehe. Meron ako noon article about raffle contests yung sa isang coffee brand. Magcocollect ng wrappers. Pero ang issue ko din is kung ano ang ginagawa sa mga wrappers after. Tapos nahihiwagaan ako if kung meron ba talagang nananalo. Baka kasi mamaya employees lang nila na pangalan pero wala talagang prize.
