Swimming Time!

One of the things that I like about being in Oslob is how accessible the beach is, and I mean the public beach. Back in Bohol, although we have beaches too, it would take us time to get to a white sand one, we still have to travel around 10-20 minutes to get to one however, in Oslob, we just walk for around five minutes and we can already enjoy the seawater.

So when we reached Oslob on Tuesday last week, our first goal was to swim especially since Matti had a running nose. Elders would usually recommend that kids who have coughs or colds should go swimming and the sea has its wonders in healing those illnesses. I also believe this and swimming in the sea had indeed helped as Matti's colds are now gone after just three times of swimming, yes, he went swimming consecutively.

But today's article is all about his first day of swimming because on the second and third, I didn't take photos anymore. Join me as we go to the public beach of Lagunde, Oslob.

We woke up at 6:30 AM on Wednesday, the sun was already up but we still went to the beach. A short walk is needed to get there. Matti didn't want to walk so his father carried him instead.

I brought with me a bottle of water, three slices of bread, a banana, and my phone. Of course, a towel was also needed. Remember the rashguard we bought at SM? Yes, it was Matti's first time wearing it.

On our way, we noticed some changes, there were many coconut trees down, but nature is already slowly getting back. There were still shrubs along the way, flowers, and other residents planting some local vegetables too.

Animals can be seen along the way too such as goats, hogs, chickens, Matti had enjoyed saying hello to them. I was also feeding Matti.

We have to pass by the highway too, the century-old Acacia trees here obviously were affected but I am glad that they are still alive, the leaves and branches look thinner but they will surely recover soon.

We crossed the street and then we were greeted by the sea, it was low tide. There were many fishing boats docked and there were no other people around. The waters look a little rough, it was windy too but it was also sunny so it didn't feel cold.

By that time, we had already finished eating the banana and bread. Matti went down and started picking up stones. I wished this beach have fewer stones though, it's not very nice to be walking on a beach with distributed stones.

My husband was contemplating if he should pursue swimming because it was windy and the water was rough, I can't go swimming because I have a monthly period but I encouraged him to go swim because of Matti's colds.

He decided to go, I, on the other hand, was just at the shore, taking photos! I guess I also took some videos, I still have to check that out.

Matti and James went to the waters, they stayed at the shallow part. They were not swimming, he just sat there and poured water into Matti's head and body. This was not the swimming that we imagined.

Before, when March comes, the beach should have a calm vibe but not this time, climate change is indeed real!

I told James to go to another spot because, for some reason, the specific area where they were sitting has bigger waves while on the other side, the water was calmer. I started walking barefoot too, feeling the earth under my soles!

This is what is called earthing, I always want to walk barefooted on a beach and although there were big rocks on this beach, there's an advantage to having them and that's for therapeutic purposes. Have you tried walking barefoot on a beach and felt really good afterward? I did many times and this was one of them.

I walked from the bigger-sized rocks and stones towards a sandy part, not too fine though but just enough for me to feel the presence of the sand. These were loose ones and I wished the entire beach shoreline have this type of sand instead. But then again, we have to look at the brighter side. I reached the end and stopped, I can't go further anymore because the rocks there were mossy.

Matti and James moved to this area because there was a sandy part and Matti now can stand by himself instead of the rocky area where he was just being carried by the husband. Matti then found a way to entertain himself with the use of the rocks, he picked them up and started throwing them into the water.

He was just like that the entire time, we decided to go home but he wouldn't stop, so we let him enjoy his time.

It would be nicer to swim during high tide which usually happens in the afternoon. But since the husband is working and has meetings in the afternoon, we can't do go swimming at that time of the day.

Unfortunately, the next time that James and Matti went swimming, the water had the same state, rough and wavy. But it didn't stop them from going into the water still.

Matti isn't afraid of waves anymore, in fact, he loves them, he would use his hand to splash the water and giggled after.

That's it for now. I'll be sharing more of our Oslob adventures in the next articles.
