Once upon a hot afternoon, I searched on Google Maps a place where the husband and I together with Matti and mom could get some cold drinks. We came from Tagbilaran City and since we got our tasks done earlier than we expected, we thought it would be a good idea to stop by somewhere along the highway and refresh ourselves plus, it should be interesting so I could write an article about it.
I spotted Crescencia which sounds interesting, for me, it felt like a woman's name but the good husband said it could mean different, my mom just stayed silent and agree, she is not very decisive yet but said it's my call.
We pulled over as soon as we found the signage. It's an ancestral house! Now, that's quite interesting. I got out of the car, opened the umbrella as it was very hot, we went here last June, yeah, the photos had been stuck on my mobile phone for months now.
Here's how it looks from the outside:
But before we go inside, let me just give a shoutout to my generous sponsors, again, you guys are the best!
Go check out there profiles guys!
Now, we are ready to go inside Crescencia Food and Coffee. I have a great feeling that the inside would contain antiques and old stuff. I like how the cafe's name is written here in these wood palettes.
It's amazing how we had driven past this area before like countless times but never knew there's this place!
I turned my camera on and started taking video from opening the door until we got inside. Cozy and very Filipino! This is what an ancestral house's silong looks like. If you are a Filipino, you'd know that our old houses are made of certain areas and silong is where we hold guests before the house masters would allow such people to go up to the living room.
Some would also use this as a storage area. It is spacious enough for people to stand and sit. Also, some families would keep this open for their animals as well. Our houses somehow have a very strong Spanish influence.
The first thing that caught my attention is the capiz shell-designed divider. I have seen capiz shells on windows and doors and lamps as well as chandeliers but not yet for dividers. This one looks really cool!
From this portion, we figured out we were the only customers so it was super safe! The staff who welcomed us was wearing her mask as well and there's alcohol provided too. I had to sign with my name and phone number as well for contact tracing.
After getting inside, it's time to explore the place. It's great mobile phones have the option to take videos and take photos at the same time. It's quite convenient and using the mobile phone makes everything handy and easy!
Their menus are crumpled, it looked like a child had played with them. Glasses, liquor bottles, and some ancestral stuff are displayed over here.
We were looking for a table to sit at. Since we were just the customers, we roamed around first to find the best spot. We ended up picking that one in front of the air conditioner.
I continued taking photos around, this is for blogging purposes of course!
The furniture used here is all wood, they look old but still shiny and obviously durable. I wonder how many years old are they. We have furniture used by our grandparents and ancestors which are still alive today.
This corner here near the window has plants placed in glasses and clay pots, they were placed on wooden bases and they look very aesthetic! The white curtain made the light diffused in a way but also the details added beauty to it.
Here's a different angle, I super adore the wooden table! The plants look pretty on those glasses too!
They had used the plants as table centerpieces as well. Our table had a Monstera plant I guess, I am not sure and although my mother is a plantita, she can't figure out if it's indeed a Monstera.
The companions were looking at the menu for the options and they couldn't decide so I had to give them a hand. I ordered crepe and turon for the snacks while I let them pick their own shakes. My husband asked for a passion fruit shake, mom ordered a mango shake while I ordered cookies and cream instead.
This table is very interesting, it has glass on top and the inside has accessories made of shells. I thought of a coffee shop as well in Tagbilaran City which has a similar concept except that it has real plants inside. It was like a mini garden framed and made into a table! It was quite a view. I will check my photos again for that cafe and perhaps share the experience as well with you guys.
But for now, let's focus on Cresencia. Did I already mention that the eatery's name is the house owner's great-grandmother's name? They used it because she was the original dweller of this house. The grandchildren turned it into a restaurant in the year 2016.
The name itself suggests that their bread and butter is their coffee and reading on some reviewers on Tripadvisor as they have a sticker on their door, they got great meal options too! However, we only had time to get snacks so we skipped the coffee and their rice meals. That's a good excuse to go back next time.
The above image is their coffee area.
I appreciate how they had maximized their space. From filling the room with numerous tables and chairs to taking advantage of dividers and corners. On the other side of the room is a whole piece of furniture filled with figures and sculptures.
They are currently celebrating their fifth anniversary and have some promotions going on.
They also got some paintings hanging on the walls. There's one which is a mother carrying her baby. I believe it is something dedicated to Cresencia herself. I just missed checking who was the artist but perhaps it is just someone from the family.
I guess there were seven sets of tables which can accommodate from two persons up to six. The glass windows gave the room enough light, it might be a bit darker when the sun sets but there were also LEDs inside which were decorated with native shade covers.
Let me share more images of the other items that can be seen from there:
They got some metal straws too available for sale!
It took only a few minutes before our orders arrived. The crepe looked good and it tastes good too! As most Filipinos are sweet tooth, this would be a perfect afternoon snack together with tea. Our drinks were a mismatch as we also had ordered sweet shakes. But this was my first time to eat a crepe with the traditional coconut syrup which we refer to as latik in it.
The turon also has latik in it. It was surprisingly a good combination! I guess this is the first cafe that we had gone to that has this combination.
My husband loved the passion fruit shake while I found my cookies and cream too sweet. My mother who loves sweets didn't mind if the mango shake was sweet, she said everything tastes sweet and that's good for her.
After finishing everything, we went on our way. If you pass by Baclayon in Bohol, please do visit Cresencia. It is also very near to the famous Baclayon Church.
