DIY weddings vs. Weddings with Coordinators
Once a couple decided to have a wedding, preparations for the said event are very overwhelming. There are those who prefer to have a Do it Yourself - DIY wedding where the couple will be the one to take charge of almost all the preparations. From deciding which gowns to use, which food to serve, what decors and flowers to be present, ordering of cakes, making invitations and souvenirs and all other things related to the wedding. The couple is said to be hands-on on the wedding preparation activities.
But as time goes by, wedding coordinators/planners became popular. The couple will just choose a package and the wedding coordinator will take charge of everything. The wedding coordinator will be the one arrange with different suppliers on the services for the wedding. From Photography, catering, venue, wedding dress, make-up, cakes, music and other things relevant to the reception and ceremony.
Now, let's look on the pros and cons of the two.
Do it Yourself Weddings
DIY weddings are usually done by couples on a budget, where they can freely decide which items will be present and the number itself. For me the advantages of this method are the following.
Flexibility - the couple can change the details on preparation anytime depending on budget and time.
Less expensive - you need not to pay for extra services for the labor in doing the preparation that you can do by yourself. For example, the making of the giveaways - it will more budget friendly if you will be the one making it.
On the other hand, DIY weddings really needs time and effort for the preparation. It is ideal when the couple have much time before the big event. It really needs proper planning. Sometimes, it could be the cause of stress because there are also matters that are unexpected that would come along the way.
Weddings with Wedding Coordinator
This method is ideal for couple who are busy and don't have enough time to plan things for the wedding. Couples with budget for a package chooses this for the following advantages:
Less hassle. The couple will just give the details and the wedding coordinator will give options and they will take charge of almost everything.
Save time and effort. Since you will no longer be the one contacting the suppliers, you will save the time and effort for doing those. You will just wait for the wedding coordinator to call for the schedules of food tasting, dress fitting and others.
New Ideas for the preparation. Since most of the wedding coordinators have been into practice for a period of time, they can share some ideas of what the wedding would be. They are knowledgeable on the details of the wedding that could help in the preparation.
However, weddings with wedding coordinators can be costly. Any deviation with the package would mean additional expenses. The couple cannot easily customize according to preference since there is a package followed. At the same time, it could also be stressful. When can it be stressful? When the wedding organizer does not deliver what is expected. Maybe you also heard of news of wedding organizers who scammed their clients. The wedding that they expected to be comfortable, happy became a disaster because of a scammer wedding coordinator.
So which of the two is better? My answer is, it depends on the couple and with the situation. If you have enough time to prepare and you have many contacts for wedding suppliers, then you can choose DIY weddings. If you have enough budget, then go for wedding coordinators just be sure that they are reliable and would not scam you.
