Have you ever thought about hosting a giveaway? Maybe to celebrate hitting your first 100 - 300 subscribers, 1,000 article views, or in attempts to grow your subscribers and increase users' engagement in your articles? These are good reasons to host a giveaway on read.cash.

Giveaways are engaging, outstanding for attracting attention, and a great way to treat your readers, draw in new subscribers, and drive the actions which matter most to you.

Getting Started

When you set out to run your own giveaway there are a few things you'll need to do before you launch your campaign to set yourself up for maximum success and ensure that you're going to get as much as possible out of your campaign.

In short, here are six items to consider when hosting a giveaway

  • Know your goals - Decide on a goal for the giveaway

  • Prize – Identify the prize

  • Duration – State when the giveaway will begin and end.

  • How to enter – Outline how participants can enter the giveaway.

  • How the winner is chosen and announced – State how the winner will be chosen (e.g. Wheelofnames.com, voting, etc). How soon will you notify the winner after the giveaway ends?

  • Distribution of prize - How the prize will be delivered

1. Know Your Goals

The first step is to define a goal for your contest. This will help you figure out what type of giveaway you should run, and what entry actions you should drive.

For instance, you might want to:

  • Generate more engagement on your posts.

  • Grow your read.cash subscribers.

  • Stimulate user-generated content

  • Generate awareness

The goal you choose is totally up to you depending on what your current focus is.

2. Choosing the Perfect Prize

What’s a giveaway without a prize? When you start to set up your giveaway one of the first (and most important) decisions you'll need to make is what you actually want to give away.

As a general rule, the more you're asking users to do to enter your giveaway, the more you should be offering in return. This can be more prizes - The idea is that by choosing a prize that appeals to your target market, the more of those people you will attract.

At the end of the day, the prize you offer up is what will ultimately drive participation and encourage users to complete your entry actions.

3. How to Enter - Determine How Users Will Participate

You also need to decide how users will enter the contest. Keept it simple - make sure your giveaway instructions are short and simple to follow. Some possibilities are to subscribe to your account, like the post, mention one or more other users, post something about the contest, mention you in their article, leave a comment, and so on. Entry requirements can be one or any combination of these criteria.

The key is to make it easy for users to participate. Limit the entry requirements to three or four steps.

4. Duration - Set a deadline

It may sound simple or obvious, but you would be surprised how often people forget to add the duration of their giveaway. The giveaway deadline needs to be clear.

Decide how long the campaign will run, as well as the start date and end date. Will the campaign be 1 day, multiple days, 1 week, or 2 weeks? It helps to avoid late entries and also tells users if your giveaway is active or closed.

5. Determine How to Choose and announce the Winner

When planning your giveaway, you also need to decide how winners will be chosen and how you’ll notify them. Will you use a random generator tool or will entries be judged? Whatever method ensure you choose a winner fair & square. Once a winner is selected, verify that they’ve followed all the rules.

Then you should announce the winner(s) – if you fail to do this users may think that no one actually won, or the giveaway has been abandoned and that can reflect poorly on you, so don’t forget this step!

6. Distribution of Prize

Decide if it will be a sponsor or an upvote or sent directly to their wallet, you’ll want to state that here. You might want to give an indication of the timeframe in which the prize will be delivered.

Takeaway

Once you've decided what you want to give away, and what you're hoping to achieve with your giveaway you'll be ready to put it into action and start driving engagement.

Comment, Like, and Subscribe! If you're running a giveaway, include a comment-like-subscribe rule for your participants. Essentially, this means your participants need to leave a comment in the comment section, like the post/article with thumbs-up and subscribe to you in order for their entry to be considered valid.

This ensures you're securing engagement and subscribers.
