Puzzle 2

Question:

Jacob had three sons, to whom he wants to divide his 19 horses, in the following way:

The oldest son was to receive half the property, the next a quarter, the third one fifth.

The three brothers were at a loss as how to divide the inheritance among themselves without cutting up a horse, until a stranger appeared upon the scene.

Dismounting from his horse, he asked if he might help, for he knew just what to do. The brothers gratefully accepted his offer. Adding his own horse to Jacob's 19, he divided the 20 as per the will. The oldest son received 10, the next 5, the third 4 . One horse remained: this was his, which he mounted and rode away.

Scratching their heads in amazement, they started calculating. The oldest thought:

Are not 10 greater than the half of 19? Someone must have received less than his proper share!

But each brother discovered that he had received more than his due.

How is it possible?

Explain your answer in the comment section and mention some to attempt Tue puzzle.

Oddly, if the 19 horses will be divided by 1/2 or 0.5, 1/4 or 0.25 and 1/5 or 0.20 , if you add this up there will be a total of 0.95 meaning the halving of inheritance have an excess of 0.05 of the total horses. This explains why what they have receive is still within the total of 19 horses.

Well nice puzzle. I came here to treasure hunt btw πŸ˜ƒ

Each of the son receives more than their due since it was the suggestion of the stranger to use 20. It is impossible to use 19 because the division will result to a number with decimal. Of course, there is no animal that is 9.5, 4.75, and 3.8 right?

Okay, let's do the math.

Using 19, it will result to:

19/2=9.50

19/4=4.75

19/5=3.80

Using 20:

20/2 =10

20/4=5

20/5=4

The other one is the cammel.

Let's prove that the other one is camel:

19/20=.95

10-9.50=.50

5-4.75=.25

4-3.8=.20

1-.95=.05

.50+.25+. 20+.05=1 Camel

Well, this puzzle is interesting..Lets see the problem first. we have 19 horses to be divided among three sons with the ratio as given. 19/2=9.50

19/4=4.75

19/5=3.80 But its not possible to divide..so I am using here an even num 20 and the results are now 20/2 =10 20/4=5 20/5=4

The other one is the cammel.

Now the time to prove other one is camel

19/20=.95 10-9.50=.50 5-4.75=.25 4-3.8=.20 1-.95=.05

So .50+.25+. 20+.05=1 Camel [proved] 🀞🀞

thats possible....lets see how normally, they had 19 horses and so if it was to be divided that way, we will have for the 1st son:19/2=9.50 2nd son:19/4=4.75 then 3rd son:19/5=3.80
but then the passenger added his to make it 20 horses since there is noway the 19 horses can be shared. So we now have for the first son:20/2=10 2nd son:20/4=5 3rd son:20/5=4 making a total of 19 horses which leaves 1 for the passenger this was to ensure that there was no misunderstanding between the brothers HOW IS IT POSSIBLE it was possible because 20 is a number dat can be divided by 2,4 and5 ,but 19 is not

They all got their proper shares just that they were approximated Half of 19 is 9.5 which is approximately 10,a fourth of 19 is 4.75 which is approximately 5 and a fifth of 19 is 3.8 which is approximately 4 and that was what each sons got

The passerby came to help by adding his own horse ..to make it easy for them...which he made...the horses became 20....half of it to the older son which is 10...quarter of it to the second son which is 5...one fifth of it to the last son which is 4....the remainder is one...which the passerby drove away...he just came to make it easy...so they won't have misunderstanding....... @vanjinks,@jane
