We all know that prayer is a form of self-defense and communication with God, but as we go through life, the connection between God and us fades. Not because God abandoned us, but because we are so preoccupied with achieving our objectives that we forget what is the most important thing we need to do while living in this world, which is to glorify Him and stay in touch with Him through prayer.

To make myself more clearer, I would like to share two stories about prayer.

It is a Prayer; Not just a Prayer

1. The treasure ritual

If you're familiar with the treasure thing. You may be aware that before performing an operation, rituals such as prayer and offerings should be performed. It was believed that spiritual guardians guarded every precious thing hidden.

A year ago when there was suppose to be an operation of treasure by my father's friend. As I have said there should be a ritual first before conducting, so they went in our house and asked my father if he can lead the ritual. In leading rituals there should be a qualifications, so many characterics but I will just give one, and that is a man with a good heart.

They asked my father to conduct it, all he need to do is to recite those prayers which are written in a paper. My father can't understand what are those words on the paper as it was written in different language and styles. My father told them to translate it first before he will agree.

After a day, they back with the translation of the prayer

These are some words on the paper.

My father asked them again if he can just do the ritual by reciting our prayer. The prayer which is intended for our almighty God, the one God. But they refuse it, so my father did not agree and tell them honestly he want to help but praying for other individual as a god is not right.

It is good to respect everyone's belief but we should remember that prayer is not just a prayer, but a powerful word of communication. We should think not just twice or trice whether we are doing the right thing, especially when we are conducting prayer. Remember black magic is also performed by a prayer.

2. The prayer of a White Lady

This story is an experience of my friend in High School, we are both transferee that ime. So we shared a lot of stories about our own experience in our former school. One of the story that she shared that gives me goosebumps is when she and her friend in their former school saw a white lady.

And how it happened? her story goes like this.

It was night time when she accompanied her friend in rest room. There was an event in their school so that they stay overnight.

When they reach in the rest room, there is no one else except the two of them. They felt nothing unusual that time as they used to use the rest room for how many years. Being a girl it is common to us to go in a rest room as a squad. And if you are a boy asking why? Just we feel more secure when someone accompany us, and it's also part of the term what we called friendship goal. After they pee my friend went out first and wait her outside. Her friend being alone now in the rest room, notice that someone is taring at her.

It's common to us human to feel that someone is taring to us even we haven't see it. So what she did is she slowly move her eyes towards the direction of the window and where she saw a white lady staring at her. She was so scared that time but the first things she do is she close her eyes recite the prayer of Hail Mary. She do it so fast because of nervous, until...

Hail Mary,

Full of Grace,

The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women (Blessed art thou among women)

and blessed is the fruit (and blessed is the fruit)

of thy womb, Jesus. (of thy womb, Jesus)

The point of this experience is for us to a pray faithfully. This doesn't mean that the prayer is a weak defense against evil, but the best among the rest. Why this happened? Maybe because her feeling of being scared is more higher than the sincerity of her prayer.

We can say that there are times that we pray but still lack of trust. The sadness, worries and fear is much bigger than the trust that we should put on in our prayer. This is one of the reason why evil can easily defeat us.

What we need to do is to put our heart in every prayer that we do. We are not talking to something, but to God who is the most powerful of all. It's normal to feel scared, but remember that we are doing a prayer, and not just a prayer.
