They say that the best time to start something is now, but what this really means is that there is never a good time. The only thing that matters is whether or not you're passionate about something, whether you want it badly enough to put in the work required to be successful at it. If so, then you will find a way to make the time for it.
We all want to be spontaneous, but we also want to be able to do things in a way that makes sense for our lives. So, why do many of us wait for that perfect time to do anything? We wait until we have enough money saved up or enough time off work but those are both things that come after the decision has already been made, they are not what makes us take action; they are just excuses not to take action.
It's easy to fall into the trap of waiting for "the right moment," because it feels safe and secure but it doesn't actually matter when we decide something like this. The only way we can get started on something new or learn a skill is by doing it now. Whether you’re trying to write your first book, start your own business, or learn a new skill, it’s easy to feel like there’s never the perfect time to do so.
Even if you do manage to find a time in the day, you may not be motivated enough to get going. However in reality, “the perfect time.” is simply an illusion, the only real requirement is passion, to decide whether it's something you're willing to put in the time and effort required to be successful at it.
The truth is; You will never know what you're capable of until you try, and you won't try if you keep waiting for an imaginary perfect time. Sometimes, we cook up the illusion of a perfect time because we are afraid of failure and we end up making up excuses just to avoid doing a particular task due to that fear of failure.
But it's ok to fail, as long as we learn from it. Every successful person had a couple of failures on their journey to success, but they used them as a stepping stone to attain the pinnacle of success. How did they do this? They simply learn from their mistakes. If the first approach fails, try something else. Figure out why the first approach failed and reason out what you could have done to prevent it, rinse repeat, and that's how you learn.
The only way to get better at something is to do it, so just DO IT! If you want to learn how to write, practice writing a few sentences about your experiences every day until you can write out lengthy articles. If you want to learn how to play the piano, pick up your instrument and start practicing the scales. If you want to run a marathon, lace up your shoes and hit the pavement running.
It doesn't matter if it takes five minutes or five months, just DO IT! If you want to learn a new skill, or even if you just want to try something new, do it now! You don't have to be perfect at it, you just have to start somewhere. Waiting for the perfect moment to learn a skill or try something new is itself a waste of time.
Conclusion
Whether it's writing a new book, learning a foreign language, or embarking on a new career path, you should never wait for the perfect time to do it. You will probably procrastinate for so long that you'll miss your chance completely. There are never any guarantees. The best time is always now, and if that is not true then the value of your time and abilities today will be gone tomorrow.
There are plenty of things in our lives that we always want to do but never start doing because "the time isn't right" or "I have too much work to do." But when is the time ever going to be perfect for something? Instead of waiting for a time, take the time and do it now. You might have to rearrange your schedule a bit at first when you start taking on more new things to learn, but once you get over the initial hump of anxiety, you'll start feeling that it's easier than ever before.
