How can I stop overthinking?
After thinking about all
As I've portrayed in the past article, overthinking's a phenomena that tends to affects us all, for some It might come after a particular and traumatizing experience after taking a bad decision and being presented with the same situation again, for others before an upcoming big event or change in their lives, and for some other It is just chronic, being a flaw of their character. However, there's a lot of things that you can cause you this unpleasant feeling of being paralyzed when in front of an open ended problem, many of which are really cause of your direct environment and that can be controlled. That's why I'll present you with many causes for why this might be happening and how to control It. Let's begin by portraying the most common causes.
1.- Anxious Character
A curse in most occassions, an anxious character will make you doubt even yourself in any decision, so It will be pretty hard for you not to think about everything that could go this or that way and all the little details.
2.- Excess of Information
As you spend all your day going from video to video and publication to publication in social media, even till late hours of the night, you will be overstimulated and full of anxious thoughts, usually of a negative connotation (Due to the amount of news and content which unavoidably is found on the internet) till you go to sleep. All these sources of data that are creating a surplus of not so useful knowledge in your mind might make you distracted and will create a lot of mental distress when thinking about everything at the end of the day.
With this little pieces of information we can be more prepared for what's to come, some solutions for this inconvenient that we all face in life:
1.- Limit what you consume:
Being on top of so many negativity when scrolling through your phone can cause you a lot of distress, even more at night, when you feel fatigued because of those "little decisions" taken all day choosing what to look at and what not to. A suggestion for this is to stop phone usage before going to sleep and looking at less news that might cause mild disgust(Not meaning that you cut yourself from everything that might be happening), discerning what's really worth to follow.
2.- Meditate:
A common practice for people that want to increase their focus and sense of gratefulness, this discipline can make you a lot of good If applied correctly, where by focusing just in little factors like your breathing or what's good in life you will take the weight off from those negative thoughts that might be plaguing your mind, making you more proactive in the day and less worried about everything.
3.- Act in spite in your fears:
Let's be honest, the reason why most of us don't act in the face of something is because we fear that we might fail, either because of what others might said or how It can impact us, though, at the end of the day, there's a 100% possibility of you not making It If you don't even try while these will be much less by just giving It a shot. Most people won't judge for a little slip and the ones that will do have probably not done anything because of the same insecurities. You will learn from all that experience and your mistakes, winning something out of It and having an improved perspective for future decisions.
I hope that with the presented information you can get a better perspective about how to get over your overthinking problem and be more decisive regards everything in life, guiding you to an existence of action, something that'll be much more enjoyable than just thinking about what might go wrong. Thank you for your support and good luck!
