Do you also have this problem of being consistent with anything? You know, just random stuff that you like to do, and the next thing you know you find yourself lazy and feel demotivated?
Guess what, I'm guilty again. Most of the articles I have written here reflect on my personality as well. I have noticed this problem of mine when I became a "tambay". It's a term you use for someone unemployed staying in their house for a long period of time.
That's certainly me. It feels like my life is stagnant. I have questions but I know the answers but still, I choose to not do anything with it. I know there's something wrong with me. I want to do as much as I want because I'm not getting any younger and it seemed to me that I have not done something that my heart truly asks for.
I have found my passion in music recently but my standards are raising as if I have plenty of money to spend to upgrade to a more advanced keyboard. If you have noticed, it's been 2 months since I last uploaded a cover and I don't feel like recording again because I'm no longer impressed with the sound.
So here are the steps on how to be more consistent with our actions or goals:
Focus on one habit
I'm not sure if you also have that drive where you wanna do as many things as much as you want? Like you have so much on your list throughout the day and you feel so excited to achieve it all?
When the pandemic started, I tried so hard to find a new hobby but as usual, I always ended up doing it for a week only. I just can't find the consistency that I badly need.
I just recently learned that you don't have to be too hard on yourself. You need to give yourself time to assess which one you like the most. Something you feel excited about when you do it. Something that doesn't make you feel like it's an obligation.
It is also important to let yourself not be overwhelmed with the habits you wanna do. Just take it one habit at a time.
And so I have decided to be consistent in stretching every day and do exercise. Fingers crossed!
Set a time-bound project
This means to say that it would be a motivating habit if you set a timeline for your project. Treat it as a happy project. That way, you will feel excited to achieve it once you have performed and completed it through the day.
For example, you want to ride your bike for at least 20 mins a day for 2 weeks. You will feel good once you complete that. Imagine the effort you put through on that.
As Bruce Lee said, "When we repeat an action multiple times it becomes an unconscious behavior".
Basically, it becomes part of your routine. It would feel something is missing if you fail to do it. It's like coffee, your day wouldn't be complete if you don't do it on the day.
Fight your emotions.
This is something we always have to fight every day. It is a constant battle. Our brains are so powerful that they can make you lie in bed all day just because it feels lazy. Our brains have control over our body but we needed to fight this.
Celebrate the little achievements every step of the way.
You can't master a habit overnight. Unless you have superpowers then you will have all the abilities in the world.
Sustaining a habit requires patience and focus. Which are the things I lack with. So you can tell that it's gonna take a long way to go for me to be consistent.
Forgive your failures
If we are going to celebrate our achievements, we also need to forgive our failures. We are only humans. We are not perfect. There will be a day when you have to do something urgently and you need to sacrifice your time for it.
Even if you fail to do it as to how you planned it, what's more important is that you remained focus and you get back on track. That's a major factor of being consistent.
Don't expect yourself to perform well instantly. For sure, struggles are waiting for you ahead that will test your character and grit.
