For some reason, I expected you to think about a different drive (something sensual) that should be handled privately. It's not what you think.
Well anyway, was there a time in your life where you lose motivation in doing anything? It's like when you wake up in the morning, that drive you used to have is slowly fading and you don't have that fire in your belly to get up and strive harder?
I bet you have. I'd be more than amazed if you never have had that happened. Usually, losing motivation happens when things don't seem to cooperate and just turn their backs on you.
However, on the other hand, one loses drive when his/her short or medium goal has been achieved and they do not know what else to do anymore. These things are great but it's still not enough. But, what now?
Every person must have the answer to this question:
What is your big emotional why?
Why do you work? Why do you strive hard for your life? What is the reason behind the sacrifices? What are the things you have been busy doing lately?
These are the questions that could lighten up that torch of hope and find its way back to its home. But what if these things don't work out anymore?
Here are steps on how to regain that drive:
Practice the if and then situation
Losing motivation could happen any time of the day. The moment you wake up, you will find yourself thinking about why you get up. When in doubt, you think of the possible causes of these situations and when you do, it is advisable to practice the if and then situation.
It is one strategy of lifting your mood. If your boss sets a deadline for a project, think of it as an opportunity to get better and better. Your boss is giving you a chance to show what you've got. If you achieve what he wants, then you are gonna get promoted or you will get a raise.
However, this could not be an effective strategy if the case keeps repeating itself. It radiates inner boredom through your mind and you'll lose interest.
Learning a new skill could be a game-changer. Through it, it opens a door for you to discover yourself and see what you can offer to the people around you, most especially to yourself.
Focus on the bigger picture.
When you feel like quitting, think about why you started. Always think about the bigger purpose why you are doing all these things. If you are no longer on that picture and it seems like you are only doing it for the others, I believe it's time to go back to basics and think of your happiness too.
You see, when your happiness is not included in the picture, it's hard to get motivated because self-love is lacking. However, if your happiness means helping others, that would be an extreme drive towards achieving your goals.
Keep a positive mindset.
This is easier said than done. For someone who is been going through a lot, it is difficult to maintain positivity amidst the challenges he/she's facing.
Still, it is mind over matter. Think of the activities you are supposed to do on the day but procrastination took the driver's seat and you failed to do those things.
When you think about achieving a goal, do you think more of the hindrances and challenges that will come on your way, or are you more of a person who pushes yourself to the limit and remains focused on it?
Keeping a healthy mindset changes everything. It's hard to practice. It's one thing I'm still struggling to cope with up but I am certain that if I surpass this, my life would be so much easier.
Mix your goals with your passion
When you do something you are passionate about, challenges won't be that impactful when you keep yourself motivated by it. It is a natural fuel for motivation. If your mission is just there to make money, then you are going to instill a huge effort to motivate yourself through it.
What I'm trying to say is that the goals won't be that heavy anymore because you are keeping a passionate mindset and approach. You naturally invest more effort and time because you enjoy the activities associated with what we value.
Give yourself a break.
Maintaining the same amount of energy throughout the week is hard if you deprive yourself of relaxation. It is important to detach yourself from your work at least a day off to breathe some air, different environment.
You can go biking, hiking, enroll yourself in an art class, music class, or baking class. Through this, you are giving yourself a break to be free from stress and pressure.
Recall the good memories
How does it feel when you achieve your goals? Was there a time where you were so delighted because you surpassed something you have been aiming for for a long time? Recall those good memories as they serve as an extreme motivator to keep the fire burning.
Outside forces may contribute you to lose motivation but the power is still yours to choose how you respond to the situations. Keep that passion coming and aim higher!
