It’s Okay To Cry
We all humans. As humans we felt the pain. The questions is, how do you react with that pain you felt? Do you cry loudly or do you prefer to just cry in silent? Do you cry to someone or you just going to pretend that your okay in front of someone?
CRYING, it is the shedding of tears due to emotional pain, anger, happiness and whatever it is that triggers you from crying.
When I was browsing yesterday in my Facebook newsfeed I’ve seen a quote which leads me to write this article. The quote is this one, “It’s okay to cry and express your feelings. What is not fine is you pretend to be okay but in reality you’re not. (Fr.Fiel Pareja)”
After I read the said quote, I did asked myself. Is there benefits that we can gain from crying? Because based from experience crying can only gave us more heartaches and somehow emotional stress. Since, I was curious so I did a research about it and yes I found out that there are many good things that crying may benefits both our health and mind.
In my research, I found out 8 benefits of crying. This is based on what Lana Burgess (2017) wrote on the Medical News Today.
In Burgess Lana’s article, she stated that researchers have found that crying can be beneficial to the following.
• Has a soothing effect
Self-soothing may happen when people regulates their own emotions, calm themselves and reduces their own distress. Further study explained that crying helps activate PNS (parasympathetic nervous system) which able people to relax.
• Gets support from others
By crying, aside from self-soothing it also provides support from others. This is known as interpersonal or social benefit.
• Helps to relieve pain
It is said that shedding emotional tears releases oxytocin and endorphins. The chemicals help people feel good and ease both physical and emotional pain. This way crying reduces pain and promotes a sense of well being.
• Enhances moods
Crying may help lift people’s spirits and make them feel better. As well as relieving pain, oxytocin and endorphins can help improve mood.
• Releases toxins and relieves stress
When humans cry in response to stress, their tears contain a number of stress hormones and other chemicals.
Researchers believe that crying could reduce the levels of these chemicals in the body, which could, in turn, reduce stress.
• Aids sleep
A small study in 2015 found that crying can help babies sleep better. Whether crying has the same sleep-enhancing effect on adults is yet to be researched.
However, it follows that the calming, mood-enhancing, and pain-relieving effects of crying above may help a person fall asleep more easily.
• Fights bacteria
Crying helps to kill bacteria and keep the eyes clean as tears contain a fluid called lysozyme. Further study states that lysozyme had such powerful antimicrobial properties that it could even help to reduce risks presented by bioterror agents, such as anthrax.
• Improves vision
Basal tears, which are released every time a person blinks, help to keep the eyes moist and prevent mucous membranes from drying out. This may helps in improving vision.
Again, all this 8 benefits of crying were written by Lana Burgess (2017) in the Medical News Today. You may checked the full details of Lana Burgess article through this link 👉 https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319631#benefits-of-crying
Final Thoughts
After I did that research, I realized that it is really okay to cry because aside from it’s benefits that I mentioned above it also helps us feel fine and express ourselves in s way what we wanted to. We should always remember that tears are words that heart can’t express.
As what Taylor Swift once said, “If somebody hurts you, it’s okay to cry a river but always remember to build a bridge and get over it.”
Based from my experience, I always chose not to cry loudly when I was being scolded my tears were just shedding but I don’t even utter a sound which is really not good for me because it will just hinders me from expressing myself and my emotions and it is not good in my health too. My mom would always told me before to cry loudly but I insisted not and to tell you honestly if we are just going to cry inside and let our tears sheds without having any sound of crying, it is really hard to breathe properly. I experienced this before, I hardly breathe when I did this instead of crying loudly. That is I realized it really not good for our health too.
Therefore, it’s really fine for us to cry loudly too it will make us more better afterwards.
Another thing is that, it is really okay for us to cry as hard as we want to until we felt relieved but we should make sure that we will never cry again for the same reason. It’s something like a lesson for us too. Cry hard now, after that try your best to get up and refocus again and life must keep going.
